Five dream matchups that will put the spice back into September

I have rediscovered a long-lost romance and have fallen in love all over again.

The object of my affection is neutral-field nonconference collisions. College football needs more of them. I am convinced it will happen, and I humbly offer some suggestions below.

---SNIP---

3. LSU-Texas in Reliant Stadium. This would be a blockbuster, in a setting convenient for both fan bases. Houston has so many transplants from Louisiana so it would be a great treat for them. Imagine the serious talent on the field each year. The two strongest conferences these days rarely square off, except in the Cotton Bowl, when it is usually a consolation prize. This would involve serious bragging rights.

for recruiting reasons I think Texas has zero interest in playing LSU

Yeah, LSU has become a regular in Texas robbing some of the Lone State State's biggest recruits.

It would be awesome each year to see the Trojans tackle Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama or Auburn in some neutral setting.

kinda strange he left out the best possible matchup.

and i don't think only LSU fans would agree.

Considering he mentioned LSU and UT playing on a yearly basis, I'm sure he's assuming LSU wouldn't want another major BCS opponent considering they play in the SEC.

+1

And I would think a early season Home and Home would be better than playing in H-town.

Thats what I was thinking... but imagine how badass that schedule would be year in and year out with Texas in Houston and either a home and home or a neutral site game in Dallas with USC(since the cotton bowl seems to be begging for people to play there). Throw in the typical SEC schedule and that would fun as hell to watch.

"These annual collisions would be tremendous … and lucrative. The fact is, any of these contests could net more money for the schools involved than a play-for-pay cupcake affair. LSU alone had to pay a reported $2.8 million to lure the SEC's worst collection of nonconference opponents to Baton Rouge. The fans and players (and the sport) deserve more."

And then gets in a dig at LSU's OOC schedule

No doubt, it would be fun as hell, but it would also make it hard as hell to win a national championship. USC and Texas, then the brutal SEC slate, and then top it off with SECCG.

Actually, I like the idea of playing in Houston considering LSU has a large alumni base there. How about rotate the game from Baton Rouge, to Houston, and then to Austin?

Agreed, I realize they tried to schedule Tech at the last minute, but it was too little too late. I also realize LSU opens at UW next year, but it's still no excuse for the piss poor non-conf schedule this season.

The guys that write these articles are mostly clueless about LSU and the football program, so I'm not too suprised.

And then they could write piss poor articles about what a bad coach Miles is and why he can't win championships with all of the "talent" that's in BR and how could he lose 4 games with all those recruits?

It's all relative when you play in the SEC.

maybe that is what he was thinking. but i kinda read it as a wish list of things he would like to see happen. and not counting on them all happening.

He could pick any two teams in the country and this is what he comes up with?
