They do play seven inning games occasionally during season for double headers and weather m, travel issues.

Or just get rid of the tournament all together.
At this point every team has played over 50 games. Is it really necessary to have a end of the year tournament to determine who does or does not deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament? I'm sure coaches would prefer not to unnecessarily burn through all of their pitching (and/or risk injury to key players) for what in most cases amounts to meaningless games relative to the more important NCAA Tournament. If you are one of the top teams in the conference what benefit vs. risk do you derive from the tournament?
