ou are not allowed to be optimistic on this board. when we hired Orgeron, it
We hired a coach NO school in college football had offered a HC job to in 12 years. That coach in five games did what LSU hadn't done in 150 games. Lose to a SBC team. That coach did what NO head coach in LSU history had done. Lose by 30 points to a mediocre Mississippi State. That coach hired an OC a year ago that he labeled as an offensive genius. A year later he gets rid of that OC and hires one that NO school in college football had hired as n OC in two decades. That HC produced a four defeat season and the worse LSU national ranking since 2014.
Wake up and smell the coffee. There are a lot of very valid reasons for fans to feel less that optimistic with what's going on with LSU football.

One of us is confused about the definition of optimism.

The guy averaged 465 yards and 32 points per game in 2016
and as soon as someone mentions Bama and Florida you will remove the blame by saying he was only 4 games in.
Our #1 reason for optimism is that we hired a coach that didn't want the job and in the last 20 years he has spent more time coaching high school than being a full time OC. That's pathetic for an all time top 15 program.

Biggest reason for pessimism. Idiot DP alters like you trying to justify a loser HC and a geriatric OC.

The only thing I'm optimistic about is Aranda's defenses. Just thinking about the offense gives me a headache.

Well stated.

quote:yeah, that's my problem also. It's illogical and non-opportunistic. I always tell people who work for me that when someone's actions defy 'the logic of self-interest' there is another motivational or driving factor that hasn't been accounted for. To me, to pass on what was available for OC defied logic. That driving force was a mixture of friendship, control, and comfort level of CEO with CSE. The same thing that hurt Orgeron at OM and was a big factor in Les' dismissal (failure to hold assistants accountable). I'd sum that up, for both coaches, as poor leadership. It wasn't acceptable for Miles (hence he was fired) and it shouldn't be acceptable for Orgeron.
Our #1 reason for optimism is that we hired a coach that didn't want the job and in the last 20 years he has spent more time coaching high school than being a full time OC. That's pathetic for an all time top 15 program.
As for CSE and the 2018 offense. Call me more curious than optimistic. We saw what he did with Cam's, what will something that is all his look like? Again, not getting my hopes up... but very curious. There's a high potential of the OL being very solid. A solid OL while breaking in a talented but inexperienced QB MIGHT work out.

Why believe to an educated writer when we can listen to the idiots on the rant? Rantards know what's best for LSU.

What does the writer's education have to do with anything? They're doing "3 reasons for optimism about ______" for every P5 team it seems. That means there's similar articles for Oregon State and Illinois. They're trying to sell magazines.

we have eyes.
our #1 thing to be optimistic about is hiring an OC that didn't want the job,was a massive failure his last time being a full time oc,and hasn't run his own scheme in about 20 years.
THE RECRUITS HE IS RECRUITING WERENT ALIVE THE LAST TIME HE WAS A FULL TIME OC
our #3 thing to be optimistic about is O retaining a coach he didn't hire.
in what universe should those 2 things be the most optimistic things about 2018?

So we should be pessimistic about retaining Aranda? Just stop. I'm not all onboard with O, but I am not letting that override logic and common sense.

You have said the offense wasn't better because all they played were crap defenses... none of those records set in 2016 matter cause you said they came against crappy defenses.... yet when I say it was better because the WHOLE offense didn't have to look at the sidelines for a play and then burn a timeout and then The WHOLE offense STILL looked at the sideline after said TO, you acted like ALL teams in college football have the WHOLE offense look to the sideline to see what to do... which is totally wrong....

the development of quarterbacks. Is Ensminger the man to turn it around?
When people talk about his ability to develop QBs, It takes everything I have to not flip my desk. Simple question:
Where has he been? We have had an unbelievable ability to NOT develop QBs the past 8 years WITH HIM ON THE STAFF.
Simply, where has he been, and why is he now the man to develop QBs at LSU.

Don't flip the desk! Is he the MAN? Maybe, maybe not. But it is unfair to criticize him for not developing QBs under Miles, when that was not his role nor job title. He took that role in 2016 and Etling's QB rating certainly improved from 2016 to 2017.

Don't flip your desk man. Your teacher will send you to the principles office.

LOL this may seem foreign to a baw like you, but once you become a successful professional, you have an office/desk.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but for fricks sake. Who are we kidding here?

But it is unfair to criticize
Honestly, I don't think its unfair to criticize any part of the LSU football program at this point. We are mediocre at best, and fans (myself) are ready to see this program taking steps toward success. In 2017, we did not do that.

So we should be pessimistic about retaining Aranda
no but if retaining a coach already on staff is one of 3 most optimistic things about about 2018 then we are in trouble.
how you don't see that is astounding.

yes ,you clearly are.
you think there is no problem with these being the 3 things to be optimistic about 2018.
1.ensminger- where do I start? he didn't want the job. the last time he ran his offense none of the players he will be recruiting was alive.
2. brennan era- we have no clue how this will turn out
3. aranda- he was already on staff and under contract. be happy he stayed for sure but that's really the 3rd most optimistic things about 2018?
