True statement.

Previous coach left the program an absolute disaster because of his cheating. Let that sink in

At this point all we can hope is that we make a big splash in the portal
Or get a freshman that is a victim of a coaching change. Marvel Allen is committed to Georgetown but they just fired their coach.

Not bad with 1 sec starter on your roster. Our second best player was either Hayes or Fountain. Both were end of the bench guys on other p5 teams.

And yet, when LSU opened the season in November, they had a full complement of players. The 17th ranked recruiting/transfer class. And despite the "disaster" left by the previous coach, projections of a middle of the pack finish in the SEC and postseason play (likely the NIT).

This ridiculous excuse continues to be spouted on here time and time again as if McMahon was left with only 2 returning players and had to cobble together a roster at the last minute largely comprised of players from schools like Cleveland St, Northern Iowa, Missouri St, Garden City Community College, John Logan College.

Opps! Sorry. That was Missouri. You can watch them today in the SEC tournament for the first time this week because their first year coach had the audacity to win, and not just accept being so bad they had to play on the opening day of the SEC Tournament. If you miss them today, don't worry. You can watch them in the NCAA Tournament next week.

Alt26, you and I see things UNCANNILY the same way. You are way better than me at forming it into succinct posts. EVERY word of your last post came straight from the exact take I have on this situation.

We saw after one year that Wade would have us winning consistently. I see ZERO evidence McMahon has us trending the same way. The good coaches find a way to be successful, the not so good ones have excuses.

I just try to be objective.

Wade was hired on the heels of a 10-21 (2-16) season. He didn't have the transfer portal available to him in that first year. He scrambled to get who he could to fill in the gaps. JUCO players and Waters. He kept the bulk of Jones's recruiting class for that season. His team was picked to finish last in the SEC. In game three of that season LSU went to Hawaii and beat a Michigan program that was coming off a Sweet 16 appearance. A Michigan team that would ultimately play for the National Championship. In doing so you saw a level of passion from a coach that had not been at LSU in nearly 10 years (go watch Wade's reaction to the overhead pass from Waters to Mays for a dunk to seal the win). The results that season were up and down (LSU had their share of arse-kickings) but they finished far from last place and reached the NIT. More importantly, a top 10 recruiting class was primed to come in the following season to join guys like Waters and Mays. Expectations were high...and LSU exceeded them by having arguably their best regular season in 40 years.

There is the complete opposite feeling towards the program now. LSU vastly underachieved relative to preseason expectations and just completed their worst season since the year before Wade was hired. The HC showed little to no sense of passion all year (and the team played like it). The fanbase quickly bypassed frustration and moved into apathy. Worse, LSU is losing their only consistently productive player (KJ) and the HS signing class seems far worse than McMahon's first HS signing class. Obviously, he can still revamp the roster through the transfer portal. But it is hard to find any objective basis for hope that he will.
