Look at DeSeaun Watsons impact on the results Clemson achieved when he was their starting QB. Clemson and USC are starting true freshman 5 stars I believe. Jake Fromm is a 5 star at Georgia. Trevor Lawrence at Clemson. I'm sure their are a whole bunch of others.

There was? I read this board almost every day and I don't remember "a lot of talk about lack of talent".
I remember a lot of talk about having an unknown OC, and unknown QB, and not many returning starters on offense.
I remember a lot of talk about whether our head coach was any good.
I remember a lot of talk about how brutal our schedule looked.
I remember a lot of talk about how loaded our defense was.
I remember a lot of talk about how the guys we lost on offense were not as talented as the new guys.
I can't say I remember anyone saying we were not talented. I could have missed it though.

Doesn’t that depend on the period of LSU football we are discussing?? 05 to 15 any coach in college football could win 10 games a yr at LSU. Now, 10 wins in a season is great and to be applauded.
Go figure.
Personally, I always felt winning 10 games playing in the SEC west was a damn fine achievement no matter the coach.

by the very nature of 5* rankings, that is literally impossible. also, Fromm was a 4*, albeit a very high 4*. Lawrence I believe was the 2018 No 1 overall player.
