I did This in another thread that got whacked because it got probably too negative for TJ.

My main point is to point out that’s it is too early to judge TJ in my mind.

I looked at Scoring D Passing D and Team Sacks

Brennan

Miss St. SD 57th PD 105th TS 31st
Vandy SD 112th PD 119th TS 83rd
Missouri SD 85th PD 84th TS 60

TJ

USC SD 105th PD 97th TS 83rd
Auburn SD 38th PD 79th TS 24th
Arkansas SD 97th PD 102nd TS 83rd
A&M SD 28th PD 56th TS 20th
Alabama SD 13 PD 70th TS 7th

Max

Florida SD 74th PD 100th TS 7th
Ole Miss SD 117th PD 125 TS 76

Finley stared against probably the only three defenses on the schedule anyone would call good and it’s not really close after them. The only other top 70 Scoring D was Miss State

Its too early to judge TJ because he was 18. Development is a thing.

I mean, it's only 1 game, but Max looked much better than TJ against A&M on nearly the same number of attempts. So to act like Max hasnt looked better than TJ against the same competition is a bit disingenuous.

vs. A&M:

TJ
9/25, 0 TDs, 2 INTs

Max
14/22, 1 TD, 0 INTs

It's not exactly an apple to apple comparison, but Max and TJ did share playing time in three of those games (all TJ starts). Regardless there's going to be a QB competition this spring.

12/22 of those passes were on the last drive of the game down 20-0. Definition of junk time

The three drives before that we went -4, 9 and 6 yards with Max at QB.

However, defenses prepare for the QB they expect to face. Even at the pro level you see the backup come in and have success where the starter does not usually because the backup was not part of the game-plan.

That doesn't change my opinion about Max playing better under pressure than the other two QBs, because in games where LSU had to come from behind to get the win, he was the most successful when facing other high-powered offenses in games late. Brennan still has not led LSU in a comeback win, yet. LSU was down by 48-40 with 8:43 left and Max led the comeback. Then against #6 UF on the road as Orgeron said ''Boy, his confidence was incredible,'' ''I think Max is going to be a championship quarterback.''

These are just objective facts.

Settle down, Mr. Johnson.

I agree with the confidence. But I still believe that MB is the best option. Max is close #2 for sure tho.

I think 2020 hurt TJs development more that it helped.

Finley has the physical tools you covet. Big kid who can see easily out of the pocket and the arm to threaten a defense at any area of the field. Defenses can't relax when a QB on the other side can easily beat you over the top or hit a deep out from the other hash.

However, he has the furthest to go from a mechanical and mental standpoint of the others he is competing with simply because one is going into this 5th year of college football and the other had a long time NFL QB to serve as his coach, mentor, teacher as well as his father.
