The falloff at WR wasn't on the QB.

Respectfully, I disagree wholeheartedly. We were physically incapable of executing mid-range passes this year. (See threads about Canada's beef with CEO stemming from not being able to get Brennan in the game to open up the passing game where Etling could not).

Additionally, we missed on so many wide open deep balls, some of which could have literally changed the entire scope of the game (RE: Alabama Game).

Im the first one to give Danny a nod on his passion for LSU, toughness and grit, but efficient and accurate passer he was not.

Edit: Its worth noting that we may not have had the blockbuster names at WR last year, but the talent was 100% there, we just couldn't consistently get them the ball.

Brossette is going g to have a great year rushing the ball. Clyde will catch a lot of balls out of the backfield. The freshmen coming in will get some touches but won't supplant those too two by any means.

Brossette and Clyde will be such a great "thunder and lightning" type of duo. They are practically a prototype of the set up.

Why? Just putting on the uniform and playing the same position doesn't mean you'll be good. We're DBU but that didn't mean Danny McCray could cover.

And yet McCray had a longer NFL career than some of the more touted players.

so from 1991 to 1994 those LSU backs never played in the NFL?

we actually recruited the RB spot pretty well during that period.
odell beckham Sr. played during that time, but he had injury problems
the '92 class was loaded with RB... Jay Johnson, Robert Davis, David Butler, Robert Toomer... all pretty well highly rated at the time
Johnson got kicked off the team for stealing
Davis had injury issues
The next year in '93 we signed Kevin Franklin, who was as highly rated as a RB as Warrick Dunn.

most LSU D players raved about McCray
in hindsight, it looks like we played McCray out of position or asked him to play more man coverage, which wasn't his strength

Because of special teams not DB ability. When he was forced into playing safety because of injury he was still a coverage liability and got benched at the end of the year.

Didn't need a 5 star.

We missed on a 3 star from Jennings who had 13 touchdowns for Clemson this year as a true freshman.

Etienne would be our best back right now.

Ed O fricked up royally not making Etienne a priority last year

WRONG. Ed O pushed for Ettiene once he got the gig, the kid was already sour from Miles not slobbering over him that he literally committed to Clemson when they came calling the last 2 weeks of the cycle. LSU recruited the kid for years, he got butthurt, signed with the last school to go after him.

It depends upon the play of the OL and blocking schemes. That said I think LSU will be potent along the sward, as always.

Hester, Ridley and Ware were all pretty mediocre here going by numbers, don't think it's as unprecedented territory as it's being made out to be, it's just not much experience.

You saw enough of these guys in the previous season that you figured we'd be good going forward running the ball. Ware vs TAMU, Hester was a good support player before his starting year, and Ridley came on for us after we lost Scott and Keiland late in the year before he started the next year. And I definitely wouldn't consider Hester or Ridley as mediocre starters.

Hester 1103 yards 12 tds 106 receiving 1 td
Ridley 1147 yards 15 tds

With sophomores Ware (9th ranked ATH 85 overall recruit) and Ford (5th ranked RB 44th overall recruit), we expected to have a good run game. Plus we were getting Kenny Hilliard coming in, who was the 8th ranked RB and a former LSU star's son. Even more, coming in to 2011, we knew we'd have a great OL.

I'm banking on the run game to be at the very least, decent, but this is our least talented RB unit in a while going off of production and rankings.

No. But a lot of the guys you mentioned broke out early when people didn't see them coming.

Andrew Whitworth, Kevin Mawae and Alan Faneca used to be OL's at LSU.

That doesn't mean we have a good/great OL at LSU currently.

Dalton’s nephew
Ike’s cousin

His dad didn’t play for LSU, as far as I know.

We may not have the big name like in the recent past but we will be ok. Betting RB will be a high priority for next recruiting class.

This will sound pretty dumb, but i kind of like having a crew of decent RBs this next year and not one of the best RBs in the country.
Corect, sounds pretty dumb.
You always want the best players at each position and any scheme you run with mediocre talent can be done better with elite.
This is like saying I'd rather have 5 Yugos in a race than a 'Vette and Viper.

But the guys back there work incredibly hard and were recruited for their talents.
Nick was a highly regarded recruit. Other guys were not. We’ll see but there’s a reason why Kev Faulk was the highest rated guy in Louisiana and Spencer Ware, Fournette and Guice were 5*s.
