All this talk about lack of national recognition reminds me of the 2006 seeding screw job.

SEC regular season:
LSU 14-2 (losses at UF and Bama)
Tenn 12-4 (LSU, Bama, Ark, UK)
Down the stretch Tennessee lost 3 of its last 5 games, plus 1 and done in the tournament (lost to SC).

Non-conf:
Nothing notable either way. Tennessee Lost to Memphis and Oklahoma St., but did beat Texas. Reg season record 21-6.
LSU beat West Virginia but lost to Ohio St., UConn, and Houston. Reg season record 22-7.

We all know how it ended up in the tournament, with Tennessee losing early, and LSU in the FF. I just could never figure out the huge disparity in seeding.

Just because Tennessee lost to Kentucky, don't overlook them! Those boys have a tough, gritty, hard nose team that can beat anybody in the country. They play great defense, unselfish offense and they are hungry! They lost to Kentucky on the road after we just beat the Wildcats, so UK was very fired up for the game. Tennessee is one of the best teams in the country and I hope our young team realizes they will have to play their best game of the year to beat them. Those boys are for real and they're looking to avenge that lost to UK!

Outside of Grant Williams, there’s not a lot about Tennessee that scares me.

Vandy showed their vulnerability by taking UT to OT, after Vandy should’ve won in regulation. Then Kentucky really exposed them.

At home, I like the Tigers.

Having a hard time predicting the spread in the Tenn game but if LSU is +3 or more I’d be all over it

In 2006 the NCAA grudge over the Dale Brown era wasn’t quite over and Bruce Pearl was the Golden Boy of college basketball. He was a master self-promoter and he wasn’t publicly exposed as dirty as hell yet.

I remember the infatuation with Pearl. I just couldn't believe it would influence the committee like that.

Pearl snitched on a player for the NCAA. They love that kinda shite and are forever in his debt.

Looking at an article from that year, it appears that everyone had trouble with Tennessee being a 2 seed. LSU was in the right spot as a 4 seed.

How did LSU win the SEC in 2009 and get an 8 seed for its troubles? That was a joke.

2008-2009 was the most horrendous.

An SEC champion getting an 8 seed?

26-7 regular season. 13-3 in SEC.

Just awful. Awful.

Committee member revealed a year or so later that Tennessee and Florida were supposed to be flipped. They flipped the two schools locations in the committee room but they forgot to flip the seeds.

Florida was supposed to be a 2 and Tennessee a 3.

I think Tennessee was mistakenly seeded too high.

But LSU needed that win over U Conn and they have been a 2. We had a great OOc schedule but lost to majority of the better teams.

Kicked Tennessee's arse at home that year.
