2001 lsu vs auburn (off-season nostalgia)

1999 was the infamous cigar game with auburn winning 31-19 and smoking cigars in the field. 2000 rolls around and auburn dominates again on the plains. 2001 the game gets pushed to the end of the season because of 9/11 with both squads sitting at 7-3 winner represents the sec west in the sec championship. How fricking electric was this atmosphere especially when auburn gets a flag for stomping on the eye Pre game and tigers go onside kick and recover and go down and score
Tigers win 27-14 and go on the pull the biggest upset in sec championship history

Watched the game the other day. Fantastic game. Rohan to Reed was unstoppable.

I was there and it was electric from pregame until 0:00. People were handing out cigars in the final minutes and the entire stadium lit up. I remember a lot of the fans hung out for a while after the game partying in the stadium.
It felt for a moment like the student section was going to rush the field at halftime when Damon Duvall was kicking field goals as the band was marching all around him and then he tried to fight them.
I also vaguely remember one of our gunners (Michael Clayton?) almost killing their KO returner. Not sure if that was this game or a different AU game.
Multiple factors came together that night to create the wildest football game atmosphere I've ever been in.

LSU got drubbed 41-7 in 1999.
In 2001 it was one of the best atmospheres ever in Tiger Stadium. Way before the game some woman did handstands and shot balloons with her feet and a bow and arrow in the north endzone.
frick Damon Duval
Towards the end of the game there was a stadium wide "Auburn sucks. Auburn sucks" chant.

Funny thing about it is Duvall shanked the frick out of his next fg

I was there and remember it being a cool/cold/perfect night for football. We walked to campus from an apartment on Nicholson, and the electricity was palpable, amping up the closer we got. I remember very little from the game itself, mainly just the atmosphere and the sheer glee of clinching that 1st SECCG berth.
2 things that stand out:
1) The whole game, in the back of my head as I looked around the packed out stadium, I couldn’t help but let my mind wander to “what if they flew a plane into this West side of the stadium?”
2) I was with a buddy who had played from ‘97-‘00 and felt really bad that he wasn’t getting to experience it as a player, especially after going through ‘98 and ‘99.

Auburn used to be such shite heads like Florida was under McElwain and Mullen. I think Napier isn’t going to allow that type of bs.

Tubberville era Auburn were such dicks. 1998-2008ish?My old man is a real nice guy but I remember him saying during that time period how much he thought Tubberville was the biggest arse in the SEC

I’ve always hated Auburn more than any other school because of Tubs

Was there. Magical night. One of my all time favorites. Those early Saban years were a lot of fun.

I remember being at that game and using my binoculars to look up to the boxes to see Tennessee Florida score. The winner of that game game won the East

Easily the best Broadcasting Game Crew ESPN has ever had!

And it was definitely Clayton.

One of the greatest upsets in SEC history.
I believe Tennessee was an 18 point underdog. Game was in Gainesville too.

There always seems to be a few programs like that in the conference. Currently the team that falls into this category is A&M. It starts at the HC and trickles down. Certain coaches believe that it’s ok to allow their players and staff to be classless.
They think it gives them a edge. It doesn’t. It just makes you look trashy. Little petty annoying things don’t win titles. They make you look stupid. You won’t see Saban, Kirby, Pittman, Dabo, Mack, Mark Stoops and Kelly coached teams doing these things. They’re going to show up and act like professionals. No bullshite. Play the game and leave it on the field. No pregame scuffles. No press conference trash talk. None of that.

I don't remember his name, but the UT running back absolutely went off that game.

Ron Franklin was a GREAT play-by-play guy.
Dominick Davis was a better football player than Toefield.
I hate Auburn.
It’s been more than 20 years, but my offer still stands…….if Rohan or Reed need some of my blood, I’ll give it to them.
