Best RB TRIO ever at LSU.
We have had some good duos also though.
The dalton James gang.
Sammy Martin. Harvey Williams.
Vincent. Broussard.
Addai Hester.
Hester. Williams.
Fournette. Guice.

Man what could have been with Cecil Collins. I was at that Auburn game in 97. He had 230 yards rushing on an excellent Auburn defense. He could have been one of the best.

Greatest backfield in college football history.
Those three were disgusting. Especially when you also consider all three were great return men and could catch out the backfield.
Faulk was the best LSU runningback we’ve ever seen. Collins could of been the best, had he stayed healthy and Mealey could of started anywhere in the country.

Jesus if you would have told me that team was going to go 4-7 and start a 1-13 SEC streak I would have thought half the team had been ruled ineligible or something.
Most disappointing season in my lifetime no question.

I believe you. For whatever reason I've remembered that game as a road game.

That ‘98 season for LSU is, IMO, why Baylor, WVU, and aTm will never make it in the SEC unless they change their defensive philosophy.
You can’t just out score the top 6 teams in the SEC in any given year. Your offense will get demoralized midway through the second quarter due to the fact that the other team has a defense AND an offense, while you just show up with an offense.

Probably the most disappointing LSU team (considering the expectations and roster) of the last 25 years. They returned so many key players...before guys like Foster and Collins got kicked off the team. Then, Lou Tepper torpedoed the team and Dinardo's LSU tenure. So much promise, then a massive implosion.
If the team had met expectations or not fallen so hard Nick Saban would have likely never landed in baton Rouge. The next 20 years might have looked very different for LSU and also Alabama.
Who knows maybe the coach the Dolphins would have hired in 2006 not named Saban might have chosen Brees over Culpepper. History does not happen in a vacuum.

And nobody even remembers Kendall Cleveland, who could’ve started for most teams in the SEC from Day One.
It was an embarrassment of riches.

For some odd reason, Dominick Davis is rarely mentioned with the all-time LSU greats.

Losing Carl Reese was the death blow
Losing Reese? DiNardo ran him off.

Where is Mealey now? Played ball with him at the rec center a couple times. Seemed like a good guy.

Yes Carl Reese loss was crucial. LSU came into 98 with about 8 starters back on D. In 1997, LSU's D was first or second in PPG and TYA in the SEC. Mr Lou Tepper replaced Reese and the D literally went to hell while the O set several LSU records at the time.

Those three were better than any rb we have on this year’s team.
