Sounds like our best bet after the game may be to walk to a bar, hang out for a while, and let the crowd and surge pricing die down.
That's probably your best bet! But if you need to leave sooner, I've been picked up a little past the Varsity Theater and was able to get out no problem.

If you don't start in the morning, then you can't drink all day.
Godspeed!

Minnesota, so we could definitely wear Gopher gear. We just weren't sure if that would be frowned upon or a conversation starter. Thanks for the feedback so far.
If you give us PJ Fleck, I will sure as hell invite you to my tailgate and throw in $100 to you as well.

It will be packed, but Walk Ons is a good place post game. They usually have a live band under a tent in the parking lot. It's walking distance from the stadium. I'd get the uber to drop you off near Chimes. Then walk through parade grounds, by indian mounds, down the hill, and then towards the RV's after Mike the Tiger's cage.

Only an hour to really tailgate? Wut? Getting out there at 6. Just wear your gear and strike up a conversation. I'm by the parade grounds so if I see some gophers walking by, I'll give you a yell.

How do you figure only an hour to tailgate if we're there at 8? I'll definitely be hoping the locals will call out to us after seeing us in Gophers gear. I have been looking forward to this for months. Hopefully Baton Rouge shows us a great time!

What a great day and you will have a blast !
LSU fans are pissed off so get ready for a mix bag about the team. Walk-ons after the game is what I would do, very close to the stadium and has a mix of some older folk that don't look like they are 15 years old.
Pre-game - anywhere around Tiger stadium you are good. Look for the big pits and tents. Tiger fans get lite up pretty early - some not all. It is like anything else a mixed bag. It is a easy read if you are around happy folk or serious loud drunks. Another poster said we love out of town folk visiting and he is so right. Once people find out you are a yankee they will want you to try that thing they cook the best.
Have a blast and don't expect to get out of Walk-ons for at least 3 hours. You might be able to get a taxi by then.
Have a blast and learn how to spell - go - it's Geaux

You will have a good time, but make sure you walk close enough to tailgates to get noticed! Early on, people will still be setting up but by 11:00 they will be getting sauced up. Relax, have a good time, bring some beers or whatever beverage you prefer to walk with, and check things out.

What are your ages? That'll help tailor your instructions for the day.

after the game, that makes a lot of sense...either Chimes or Walk On's...both will be packed, but you can find a place at the bar...

We're both right around 30. What do you suggest as far as the bar scene is concerned later on that night?

Reggie's has all the 18 year olds you'll ever need.

You can't go wrong with the area around "the hill" and the Indian mounds. The entire campus is a huge tailgate but that area will be great for you. Just walk up and introduce yourself; tell them you are here on a bucket list trip. You'll be set. Remember these key words...."that looks good. Can I try some?"
Bar scene......if you are staying downtown, 3rd street has some cool places. Rooftop of Tsunami's has a nice view of the river. Might be nice to compare the Minnesota version of the Mississippi to the Louisiana one. Chimes and Walkons' after the game are also good options.
Dress cool. Its gonna be hot Saturday. It shouldn't be crazy humid but you might think it is.
Have a great time! Come back afterwards and let everyone know about your experience.
