1st half punt with 14 seconds left....

Am I the only one who was screaming wtf ? We're 4 th down and short ( think it was 2 yds, but may have been only 1 yd.) and there's only 14 seconds left. If we go for it we might- 1. Make the first down and get one more play off. 2. We score. 3. We turn the ball over on downs with 9 or so seconds left. 4. We turn it over (fumble/interception) and the clock continues to run until the ball is whisteled dead.
However, we punt with 14 seconds left the clock stops with change of possession and they quite possibly have 2 opportunities to score, but we all know now they only needed one. This just seemed like the tipping point for me.
Many would argue that this was a conservative call and the right one to make, but come on give up one more chance at scoring or getting first down with 14 seconds left ?
FIRE CROWTON NOW.

Should not have called.timeout while we had the ball with like 2 minutes left.
Les shoulda just let it roll n ran a few run plays to take the game into half time.

I agree Gary Crowten should be fired, however...I don't agree we should have gone for it with 14 seconds left. Mostly because our offense is horrible, and there's is not, but you still expect to get a stop if they have the majority of the field to go and 6 seconds to do it.

I think that was the ONLY call to make. If you don't pick up the first down, they're a 20-30 completion away from field goal range. The odds of them scoring were MUCH greater on a failed 4th down conversion than having to drive 80 yards.
Think if the opposite would have happened. We go for it, get stuffed, Mallet completes a pass over the middle for 30 yards and they kick a field goal. In my mind, that's a worse coaching job than punting and making them drive the length of the field.
Simply put, if Hatcher made the tackle like he should have, nobody's talking about it. It was simply a bad play by the safety.

It was 4th and 6 on the LSU 44. So which would you rather, turning the ball over with nine seconds leaving Arkansas only 44 yds to go or punting the ball giving them 80+ yds to go in 3 seconds?

now that's hindsight right there. we were actually trying to run a hurry up and score before the half. that was the right thing to do. of course, the offense completely blew it. they looked confused and the called plays were executed poorly and it did not work. yes, we had a game or two that our offense looked like it was coming out of its "funk", but overall it was dysfunctional all year. my opinion is we need a change at the OC position, the OL position and depending on recruiting expertise, the WR position. the "passing coordinator" thing did not work.

Those words pretty much sum up the last two years with Crowton as OC. We're always having to hurry up and score as opposed to setting the tone and dictating the game, we allow the other team to do so and follow their lead.

Points well taken. I had thought we were actually closer than further from a first down. It just seemed to fly in the face of trying to score in the final minutes and seconds of the half. The choice to punt appeared to signal "we aren't confident ".
To me the punt allowed Arky more time to approach their next play, where as to have gone for it and not made it wouldn't have given them as much time to call a play down.
Missed tackle? Yeah your right that was the final failure in that play, but not the only domino to fall making that the only reason they scored.
We lost in many other areas Saturday, but that decision just seemed to me to be a tipping point. Enough said. Screw Crowton, FIRE CROWTON !

my problem was the team had no clue what it wanted to do with 45 seconds left in the first half.
running plays...time outs... pass plays..
what were they trying to do? score? run the clock out?
if they were trying to score, the playcalling didn't indicate that.
if they were trying to run clock... why not just kneel the ball?
The problem with the offense is it looks like 3 different people are trying to call plays...

But if we punt they are only 91 yards away from a TD. I like three better than seven.
No you're right. Punting was definately the right decision.hindsight It just didn't go our way.understatement

Exactly how I felt, and not just for that series of plays but many series throughout the last couple of years.

every LSU fan should ask themselves this:
1. was that the hurry up offense?
2. if so, the hurry up offense at LSU has running plays in it?
really?
what the frick???

We was attempting to get out of half, but Ridley or Murphy ripped off a huge run. You see it all the time in football. Draw play, 10+ yard gain, timeout. Then the attempt to get in field goal range.

It may be sort of an apples to oranges comparison, but I absolutely love the way how, pretty much no matter what, Sean Payton approaches the end of every half as if it's the end of a game in which his team absolutely needs to score.

I was already aware of the mistake, when they threw on prior downs.

I would have to agree with you

Exactly. LSU should never have called time-out. When we got the ball back, it should have been to run out the clock. Instead, it was piss poor clock management once again that, this time, Lucky Les didn't get away with.
Arkansas should never have gotten the ball to end the half. Never.

you can say what you want about that, i think it was the right call. but play prevent defense chavis. why was there only 1 man with any chance of making a tackle after hatcher took out claiborne? should have been several people back treating it like a hail mary situation. thats what had me pissed off
