Freaking awesome team. They had 188 Home Runs that year, with 40 home runs from their bench players.

Hit a home run in every game that season. Led off the game with a HR. Danny Higgins.

I think we had 10 players with 10+ home runs. And you only start 9 hitters….amazing.

I was there. After the game at the team doubletree hotel, Skip grabbed a microphone in the lobby atrium and gave a speech about the "spirit" of human success. There were LSU fans hanging off the side of every floor of the atrium looking down onto the lobby watching and listening. Amazing moment and of course the hotel erupted at the end. GEAUX TIGERS!

It did. One of the Alabama players waa quoted at the post game press conference how they won 56 games and had nothing to show for it. No SEC title no National title.....it was glorious!

They beat us 28-2 in Tuscaloosa on Saturday to only lose on Sunday for the title, then get a rematch for the national title only to have the guy Thompson you crushed close it out.

Still the NCAA record (70 games)

Tennessee had 184 in 73 games last year

Funny part about that season, they got beat by bama 28-2 ( 2 solo home runs) to put lsu and Alabama in a tie. LSU won on Sunday and then again for the national championship.

I don’t remember the 28-2 game. I guess I blocked that out. I seem to remember LSU winning the SEC regular season, Bama won the SEC tournament, and we came in #1/2 seeds in CWS. We were clearly the two best teams that year but LSU won the final game.
