I found this advertisement in my magazine from 1958, on the NC Tigers.
I have never seen one.
Anyone ever seen one?

If you haven't, then I'm sure most people on this board hasn't. It would be a nice addition to your collection. I would like to get my hands on one as well.

I never have. It'd be a pretty cool piece to get, though. I bet it'd be worth more than $1 now.

you know, people in 1959 had different styles than they do today... but that was still ugly back then

I know of only two plates from the 58 season, the one pictured below and a gold one with "LSU #1" (or something like that) in purple, no tiger on it

A few years back there was 1958 national championship license plate on eBay. It sold for around $100. I still kick myself for not buying it.

My uncle, now deceased, had a painting company in the 50's in BR and he made those. he said he sold them like crazy in Mags and at the North Campus gates. I guess this was prior to copyright issues???? Not sure what if anything he paid to LSU. Used to joke that he made a whopping $5k selling them. Sadly, we have none of them. I remember as a kid he had many of them in a box. A guy from New Roads bought all of them from him in the early 80's.

Is this what they looked like, because I have never seen one? If they sold like hotcakes, like you say, I would have seen one. I have run into a guy that had a box of the gold plates with purple lettering, but he was wanting a ton of money for one.

I can only tell you... This is exactly what I remember them looking like. We were disappointed he sold what he had left over without at least saving a few back for us as memorabilia.
If he sold them for $1 a piece and only made profits of $5k that means he probably sold 7000 or so? Unlikely there are many floating around now 50 years later.

if you had one I doubt you would put in on your vehicle. It would be hung in my Tiger Den.

I like how they used our true nickname of Fighting Tigers. I would like to see LSU market more merchandise with the complete name as well as being identified as Fighting Tigers during games.

How much is that license plate worth?

Chris one came up on ebay around 2000 and went for a little over 100.
That is the only one I have seen on ebay.
My cousin's next door neighbor had one on his car around 1964 still.
Around 1974 range there was a house we did some ac work in that had one in their son's room with all the championship glasses.

Yeah the nostalgia is cool but for people who complain about Toonces, that cat is terrible and makes Toonces look like a Da Vinci

In 1958 that's just how things looked
Like how now in the 2000's everything tries to look super sleek and stylish and agressive
Which is how you end up with abortions like Toonces

It's been a few years since I've been to a basketball game (2003), but they would always introduce the team, "Heeeeeeeeere come, the Fighting Tigers of LSU!" Do they not do that anymore?

They also do this to create unique images and fonts to license.
FWIW, I hate the LSU font used now. It looks like something belonging on a cheap cologne, not a university. Give it some time. We'll look back and call it ugly, too.

I'm positive that as the tigers enter the stadium Dan Borne announces:
"Ladies and gentlemen, It's Saturday night in Death Valley, and here come yourrrrr Fighting Tigers of LSU
