1908 National Champions

Why don't we list the 1908 National Championship. Coach Wingard went 10-0. Here is the entire story.
Edgar R. Wingard is a former college football head coach. He coached five different teams from 1904 to 1918, including the University of Pittsburgh and Louisiana State University. His career record is 40-10-2. He also served as the head coach of the LSU Tigers baseball team from 1908-1909 and as first basketball coach in the history of LSU Tigers basketball in 1909.
In 1908 he led LSU to a 10-0-0 record. The Tigers were awarded the national championship by the National Championship Foundation, although the school does not officially claim that season as a national championship season.

By the way, the National Championship Foundation awarded LSU that title retroactively.
Personally, I think LSU has a legit claim to that year's title, however, LSU isn't like Alabama and doesn't need to claim everything.

Here's who we played that year....not exactly the hardest in terms of strength of schedule. Haha

Because we're not Bama or Ole Piss?
That kind of stuff, while historically sort of neat, is really silly to try to "claim" in this day and age.
I'm content "claiming" the two we've got, and the one we're about to get.

I think we have a legit claim to 7 titles.
I agree however to only officially claim the '58 and '03.

That was pretty standard back then. The "real" champion back then had a tied game to Carlisle Indian Industrial School.
Also, even if it might have been a easier schedule, at least we dominated enough to make up for it:
LSU 442-11 Points scored/against
Penn 215-18

The first game that year, was against the health club, where I used to work out.
Hey, we were able to hold the Tigers to forty points.

Sorry about the cite, I got it on an email without. I think it would be cool to honor the 1908 team next year since it will be 100 years.

Dude I was just picking on you about the citation. But I do think its really cool that a short article I wrote on Wikipedia is being emailed around. What's the story behind that?

Here...
A review shows that some organization awarded an NC to LSU in:
1908 (same organization "split" the award with Penn)
1935 (same organization "split" the award with TCU)
1936
1958
1962
2003
As noted in an earlier post, to claim any NC other than the 1958 and 2003 would make us look as pathetic as Ole Miss (and as delusional as Alabama).

Isn't that Jim Thorpe's alma mater?

Sure is....and if Penn played his team to a tie then that's pretty impressive.

Yea, that team was coached by Pop Warner and had Jim Thorpe on the team. Pretty impressive!

that means 4 safeties: give up 0 touchdowns, 1 field goal, and 4 safeties all year. our offense was our only threat to score points against us!

How about that 1903 team?
Was that a monumental collapse or what?!
Going from undefeated and unscored upon to winless and scoring zero points!
Gee-Zussss!!
