From the Manual Of Gardening 1916 book by L. H. Bailey;
He is the Horticulturist of the Louisiana Experiment Station.
So he is a LSU grad, look at the Gumbo AT.
I will get you more later.
Ok he wrote a book in 1907 called Japanese Persimmons.
So that puts him as a grad before 07.
Found an earlier work by him form 1902 called Pecans.
So he maybe a staff member at LSU in 1902 in the above department.

Please share more if you don't mind. I collect and this is a great find. Like where did it come from plus anything you learned about it. How many bidders were there and how much did it go for?
I enjoy collecting very old year books, mainly high schools. There is some really good historical information in all of them.

I saw it listed on eBay with no bids, contacted the buyer and asked to put a BuyItNow of $60 and he did.
Funny thing, this was the second time it was listed. It was listed a week before that and had no bids. He was asking $45 opening bid or BIN of $90. I didn't see it listed the first time. He didn't have it listed very well.

What we know AT, F.H. Burnette was a Professor at LSU.
I know at least 2 of the photos in the book were made into postcards, the football team and the view to the south from the flagpole (I have this postcard).
Odd facts I picked up last night:
Horticulture: Results of the year 1893 (Bulletin of Louisiana State Experiment Stations. 2nd Series) by F. H Burnette (1894)
Sweet potatoes, with illustrations (Bulletin of the State Experiment Station. 2nd Series) by F. H Burnette (1894)
"The Farmer aa a Nut Grower"— Professor F H Burnette, Baton Rouge
NuT Growers CONVENTION
Annual Session Will Be Held
Dallas, Texas November 18 1905
He also went to a convention in 1902 in Atlanta Oct 7-9.

F.H. Burnette seems to have been the Secretary of the Louisiana State Horticultural Society in 1904 at least.
ETA: In the newspaper/journal, I found that mentions this. They spell it Burnett . FWIW.
ETA2: It seems that a lot of different publications interchange between Burnette and Burnett.

That library is pretty protective. I could not bring my book in there (had to leave it in a locker in the lobby), and needed a photo ID just to see a book. I know they have some very rare books and some collectors would go crazy in there if they could.
I've never been in there before. Can anyone go in and browse around for something cool?

Yes but you really need to know what your looking for when you go there.
They have tons of stuff, covering pre Civil War until today.
Many WWII items, lots of Civil War, some WWI, etc.
I only go there now to do research on football in the school papers.
Funny back in the late 1970's I used to close up the Hill Library and I wasn't a student or on the staff.
I used to get the items off the shelfs and had all my notebooks and colored pens with me while doing research on the Louisiana Units in the Army of Northern Virginia.
Today things have changed, and LSU has to protect the items at Hill because most can not be replaced ever.

Morning Antique Tiger..
Long time no chat.
I got something for Christmas this year you would also appreciate: a 1915 graduation program. It is in GREAT condition. Leather cover, etc. Some of the pages are a little rough, but it was a gift from my mother in law.
The program was given to her by her great Aunt who graduated from LSU at that time.
Give me a call some time. It has been a while since I've added anything to my collection.

You can go in there, just need photo ID. They have every copy of the Gumbo. I did not see the 1st edition, 1900, I am guessing it is behind the counter.
Tigger, do you recognize the football team, year? This is probably the easiest way to date the book.

Wow, nice story! I bet you were just all Giddy over this. You just never know what you will find. Good for you the seller did not know how to list it.

Yeah, I met him last year, had him sign the 1949 National Boxing program.
He was the principal at Kenilworth the year I went there.

The picture says 'Hill Memorial Library'. LSU has a Hill Memorial on campus, west on Middleton.
The newer building pictured is the Journalism building next to stadium.
