Wouldn’t lockdown corners make our DL better?

Granted, I don’t know much ball, but with Ricks, Toviano, and Harris, doesn’t that help our DL get home? Just trying to brighten the sour mood some posters have over DL production

We’re not really in need of pass rushing defensive lineman. We have those. What we’re missing are the big uglies that plug up running lanes and let the linebackers work.
And we’re fine for the upcoming season. We’re a year away from really stressing about the position imo.

Wingo is still here….
And Wiggins will be ready.
You have to get guys like Langston and Guillory to turn the page.
There’s work to do but we’re not in dire straits just yet.
Everything is in place to have, if not elite, a very good defensive line next year.

Yes. But edge rushers make the DBs life easier more than the inverse.

I think after the commits tonight, this is the group that concerns me at the moment.

You know who else can help the DL a lot? …a stud linebacker like Devin White

This is a "6 of one and half a dozen of the other" situation. Let's take a look at the 2 best LSU defenses in the "Golden Era" (2000-present)
Recall in 2003 the dominant DL made the coverage job of the secondary much easier, with a boatload of interceptions and passes defensed. Each of the starting corners had 4+ interceptions and 28+ passes defensed on the year. The DL had 44 sacks and an incredible 171 QB hurries. On the year the defense gave up a lower than 50% completion percentage. The secondary had 21 interceptions and 129 passes defensed. This defense dominated from the DL outward. This DL absolutely beat the hell out of every QB they faced.
On the other hand, recall 2011 where a dominant secondary made the performance of the DL better (and I am not saying that that DL was a slouch by any stretch of the imagination). 18 interceptions with 58 passes defensed with a slightly over 50% completion percentage with the DL contributing 39 sacks and 37 QB hurries. The 2011 defense dominated from the back end forward.
However, what did both of these defenses have in common. Both had good to great DLs and good to great DBs. To field a dominant defense you really need to have both as they feed each other. Hence, the 6 of one, half a dozen of the other analogy.

Whit Weeks is a dog and I don’t think Braithewait is getting enough love.
I don’t think either are day one players but I think the future is in good hands.
LB will be our weakest area next year though I agree.

quote:When I said “that guy” I meant a guy who can step in without losing production like Wingo. This past year we had Maason and Roy with Wingo to back them up. Now Roy is gone and there’s no one behind Maason and Wingo to spell them so they aren’t on the field all game. We can all hope that Wiggins is ready. He came in with all of the physical potential you can ask for, but was really raw.
Wingo is still here…
Hopefully, he’ll take a huge leap in the off-season, but I don’t think we just go all in on that. Have to grab a big run stuffer that can rotate in if possible. If not we shouldn’t expect the D to be any different than last year.

Yes but to be fair, our DBs were pretty good this year.

A dominate DL makes corners look that much better.

Good DL makes our corners better too.
It’s what I love about football.

It is the other way around usually. Our D line got pushed around by TAM and Georgia
