1. Teams are not just drawing names out of a hat and hoping one hits. They are scouting college film and looking for under-rated players, so your percentages are irrelevant. They are not blindly taking random FCS/G5 players.
Exactly, The NFL does the exact same thing in the draft every single year. Depends on the team’s needs and where they land in the draft. You put numbers on a board by each name and where you’d draft them at positions of need. That’s why we have coaches who’ve evaluated their entire lives. It’s much easier to evaluate college players than it is to project the HS levels. Sure we didn’t do as good of a job last year with these evals but it’s a different year and the way we did the evals last year needs to change.
Idk what the issue was but I’m sure our coaches have a much better idea of what went wrong and will make the changes accordingly. Like coach Kelly said, they’ve been looking at this for a while now and I’m sure they have a much better plan for this year’s evals. Not only that but our freshman players didn’t play horribly, they looked young and inexperienced. The experience they did get, will get with bowl practices/game and offseason will make a huge impact for many.
You bring in others to compete and create depth and you have a completely different secondary next year. Do the same for the front seven and hopefully get a defensive staff that fits the current situation and this really could look a lot different next year.
Just because you made some mistakes with last year’s transfers doesn’t mean you abandon it or that it will continue in that direction. You change things up and continue to recruit the best athletes you can find for next year. Whether that is HS, JUCO, FCS, FBS, Canada, wherever it takes you. Get the best players to LSU and get to work! Simple as that. We have a competent staff who I fully trust to get the job done.
I’m excited to see what changes are made, who we end up with in this class, including the transfers. I think we need to use the April portal evals for the misses we may have had or simply to improve the quality of depth at the positions with the most needs at that point. I like it, if your football program is ran the right way then the portal should only help you.
