Why does Louisiana produce so few good QB prospects?

Because high schools here typically just line up their best athlete at QB and run the read option from the shotgun at least 80% of the time.

THIS --- and they're (per capita) all in Texas, next door neighbor, where we should be getting MOST of our QB talent, not CA (Rettig), AL (Rivers), Indiana (CHEST), etc.
DAK Prescotts come along in La. ever so often...but go look at the NFL QBs that are from TX....it is a fact....

Huh? Last several years, there has been a boom. If you've been paying attention to recruiting for that 6 years, there had been more La. QB prospects than ever before.
The 2016 class has been slammed with them. A staggering number in this class with D1 offers.

It's not as bad as everyone thinks. This story is from last year, but Louisiana produces its fair share of QBs per population. The Mannings, the Bootys, Dak Prescott, Jake Dellhome, Patrick Ramsey. We just produce better skill players compared to our population.
(I also agree with above though that Louisiana High Schools typically take their best athletes and make them QBs. But let's not forget Kordell Stewart who could throw too.)

This, but if we had a run spread offense like say Auburn, Ohio St, or Oregon, we could just recruit QBs from Louisiana every year and be gold.

Qbs need to be tall and coonasses are short.
It's science.

Louisiana's Top 10 QBs
I don't agree completely the order listed, but it is a decent list of 2016 talent.

I've said before, that "SEC QBs" are not
passers. They are primarily game managers. It's a running back league. BH and Dak are not the exception, but more an example of the direction that CFB is trending, and that is a more mobile QB.
I'm all for looking for the best talent. But we will hunt down an out of state kid with stars behind his name, who ultimately never busts a grape in college, while passing viable in states, for offense that doesn't throw much any way.

There are about 40 "good" NCAA QBs each year. Dak is one this year, Patterson will be good, Harris will improve, 1 or 2 good QBs at a time is about right
That's just out of Shreveport

Louisiana Girls just don't give birth to good quarterback prospects. It's just that simple.
