Reached on his cell phone Friday night, Bachman said, "I have no comment."
quote:
Former Evangel quarterback Phillip Deas, who returned for a second stint as an assistant coach in 2009, has been named the interim head coach.
Defensive coordinator Byron Dawson has been named assistant head coach with Deas.
quote:
The change continues an offseason of movement at Evangel that also included the departure of offensive coordinator Thomas Bachman. Defesnsive assistant coach John Bachman Jr. also left the staff, accepting a position at Calvary.

I a related story:
quote:
Calvary's football team has added a pair of new coaches on the defensive side of the ball -- Ronnie Alexander and John Bachman Jr.
Alexander, a former head coach at Evangel, has been tabbed as the Cavaliers' new defensive coordinator. Bachman Jr. will be a defensive assistant coach.

Holy war over there. Both schools claim to have God on their side.

As an outsider I think I'd have to side with Calvary. Although, I will repent if that gets us Rasco.

Hopefully Dawson still bleeds Purple and Gold...

Yes, I hope Byron keeps the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator position.
He was a very nice guy when he played at LSU and I hope he has a very successful coaching career.

Byron coached DL my senior of HS. He definitely still bled purple and gold then

Evangel:
1. Football
2. Football = Church, if you're really good. If not, must go to Church
3 ...everything else: = optional, including moral behavior.

He was fired because Duron wants his son in law to be the next head coach. John Bachman's son Thomas was the OC at Evangel the last 2 years and their offense's were sick and broke records. Denny wanted his Son in law to be "The man" so he fires Thomas with really no reason and puts his son in law in the position and then fires the head coach which is the Father of the son Thomas and then guess who is Interm HC right now? It's not hard to figure out.
Evangel is about to have their butt's handed to them because Ronnie Alexander one of the best Defensive Coordinator's ever in High school football who won 10 state championships at Evangel as DC and HC is the new DC at Calvary. And one of best young defensive coaches in the state John Bachman Jr, John's other son is leaving Evangel to be Ronnie's assistant at Calvary. Calvary's staff just went from good to great overnight while Evangel's staff is average.

what records did they break? i find it hard to believe that they got anywhere near the late 90s early 2000s ECA teams records..

Those teams played in 3A and 5A. The past 2 Evangel teams have just beat up on the small schools not named Curtis.

You give the coaching staff at both of these schools way too much credit. Forest gump could win with thte talent they have had at EJC. (jr college)I am not saying that the coaches deserve no credit but have you seen the kids they have vs the kids they play against.

quote:not entirely. ECA has had a lot of college busts for as many D1 prospects they seem to churn out. The coaches were running schemes and plays in the 90's that not many teams were running. I think the coaching deserves a ton of credit

This is my point....most of the teams they play do not have any D1s. That being said their teams are well coached. But when a tank and a tricycle run into one another does it really matter who was or is driving/coaching?
