If we would have saved a spot last year, either Major Burns or Jalen Lee would be LSU tigers
Possible, but it's really the ESD that creates the dilemma. If we didn't have the ESD, then either one or both could be tigers given how this has played out.

Miles closed better than Orgeron. The fact he was able to sell the bullshite he did to get the recruits he did by itself made him a better closer. He always had amazing finishes in his classes and usually came with a huge blue chip surprise by signing day. Sometimes it kinda came out of nowhere.
He wasn't a good coach but Miles could recruit his arse off with anyone. Arguably top 3 in the country for sure. Orgeron is a great one too but LSU has issues closing on recruits at the end of recruiting classes and being forced to go down their board to fill the needs. There's also a strange tendency to put all their eggs in baskets overstating a recruit's interest which also ends up on the failing to close argument.
I mean just look at this class...LSU sent several recruits off to division rivals thinking they had recruits in the bag...and they're not even going to sign a full class. Don't know what else to tell you dude. Doesn't matter how you spin it that's a misstep.

I'd like to see the list of all the big time recruits that Miles closed on NSD.
In 2017 we signed Chaisson at the 11th hour cuz of O's ability to close. We also stole Phillips from OU.
O got Chase to sign on NSD in the 2018 class even though he never really had LSU at the top of his list for the majority of his recruitment and he got Marshall on early signing day when he was possibly considering A&M.
In 2019 O closed Emery who showed very litte interest in LSU for most of his recruitment and got Apu Ika at the last minute beating out Florida.
In this class we closed on Webb, Dumerville and Ojulari at the early signing period.
So tell me again how O can't close?

You seem to have a hard time with reading comprehension ability. I never said Orgeron can't close...I said Miles was a better closer. Considering how awful his offenses were with the mediocre performances on the field, I'd say that's a hell of a closer if you ask me. That's selling some nice bullshite to the recruits to get them to come waste their talents under him. He squandered a boat load of talent. In comparison, Orgeron just won a NC and steadily showed improvement with LSU every year he took over yet you could still make an argument Miles closed better than him. I'd say Miles is the better closer, IMO, when you consider the product on the field he coached.
And LSU absolutely does need to improve their staff. Part of it is staying on top of the competition because SEC isn't getting easier to recruit against when you look at who's on LSU's borders now. You don't wait until it's a problem and you get guys plucked from your border...you get ahead of now and get filthy on as many guys who can recruit their arse off on the staff now.

Does anyone know how much ‘better’ closing was due to Miles vs Recruiting Coord (Frank/O/etc)?
The answer is no.

It should be easy to make a list of guys that Miles closed on at the last minute then.
Landon Collins?
Cam Robinson?
Speedy Noil?
Gerald Willis?
Hootie Jones?
Kenny Young?
Tim Williams?
Shiro Davis?
Denzel Duvall?
Greg Robinson?
Trovon Reed?
Janzen Jackson?
Eddie Lacy?
These are all guys from Louisiana that LSU wanted, recruited hard, and didn't close under Miles. The point being that Miles wasn't some automatic closer like you are trying to portray him as. He missed on big time recruits just often if not more so than O.

There was another guy also. Didn't do much and you never heard his name but he did provide good depth at a position of need.
His name is Thaddeus Moss. There are rumors going around that he is the son of Randy Moss but I seriously doubt it.

You also believe we need better analysts who can recruit. That pretty much shows your level of competence
Btw when we have a solid transfer LB shoring up that corp next fall, you’ll be glad we saved a spot

"Closer" doesn't really describe what I think the OP is talking about. It appears he is talking more about undecided signing day adds.
I agree O has not had a lot of signing day surprises go well. There have been a few as mentioned above.
Trend on O appears to be if he is gonna get you...he's gonna lock you up and "close" early.
I mean...if Arik Gilbert signed out of nowhere tomorrow as opposed to early on would it make O a better "closer"? Nah.
Personally, I prefer locking kids up early and holding on to the them. O has been great at getting commits early and holding onto guys he really wants. That isn't an easy thing to do.

The question was who should we be watching in the transfer portal? Anybody got any ideas? Also is there a list of all college football players in the transfer portal at any one time?

247 has a transfer portal list

I definitely agree with you on this. Not with you on the rest of your post.

Look for Linebackers. Michael Harris from Auburn is someone they are considering along with Jordan Anthony from Michigan.

It’s currently the HIGHEST rated class in LSU history.....

No one.

That's only because Lorando and CamRon are both still on the list. Once their names are removed from the list, it won't be any more unless we add a couple names to replace them.

You've got to be kidding. The level of talent Orgeron is recruiting is so much higher it looks like he is not as good as Miles.

They can recruit a lot, actually. The only thing they can't really do is leave the campus and sit in their house. They can text them, talk with them on campus, etc. You can get good recruiters as analyst if you want. Wouldn't hurt to get at least 1 guy who can recruit there since Meatball left. Don't know about the few guys they just signed maybe they can who knows.

Lost out on some big time recruits too while "processing" some 4 star Louisiana kids too.
