Who is the King ... of NCAA Football recruiting?

If you don't say Saban... you better have a damned good argument. For the record, I put LSU (Miles) at #2. frick Pete Carroll, he gets all of southern California. Might as well have a whole country to himself.

There's a bunch up at the top. Saban is up the in my top 3, not sure where though. It's kind of hard to rank them because you don't get to see them in action.

Saban and Miles are both very good. Urban Meyer didn't have a great class last year, but he has done very well in the past, and is really coming on strong for 2010. However, Saban shouldn't be crowned the king by any means since his recruiting numbers are overrated because he oversigns. Weis has also done a great job despite sucking it up as a coach once Quinn left.
I am docking Mack and Carroll points because their jobs are not nearly as difficult as the other 4 coaches.

Saban, Miles, Carrol, Myer, Brown can be mixed and matched.

They usually sign three or four players a year out of state. Granted it's a lot easier for LSU to sign 13 or 14 guys every year since LA is a small state, but USC's coaches faces much less competition than ND, UF, LSU, and Bama.

My thoughts, exactly

Meyer has it just as easy as Carroll and Brown and Miles is in one of the most talent rich states in the country, where kids grow up wanting to play for LSU, without even another BCS conference teams in the state. The talent of a recruiter can be seen by what they can do nationally.
I would put Jim Harbaugh right at the top of the list. He's putting together some really nice classes with a bad team and academic resctrictions

There are about eight guys that I would put at the top. Meyer, Saban, Carroll, Miles, Weis, Brown, Stoops, Richt. Richt and Miles come across as the guys that are the most laid back but they simply get the job done. Guys like Meyer and Saban seem much more controlling and in your face so they get more pub. Carroll is a beast at recruiting and who could argue otherwise. And while I disagree with many of Brown's philosophies regarding recruiting, he still gets 95% of the guys he wants and loses about six guys a year to LSU, OU, or a possible OOS school but rarely.

Tressel has done a good job. His classes have been right there with Weis', but he has actually won with his.

yeah Meyer couldn't wish for FSU and Miami to suck more badly than they have lately

Florida State and Miami are a lot more competitive than UCLA, Stanford, and Berkley, especially in terms of recruiting.
I agree with your national recruiting comment, and Miles probably has more out of state recruits than any of these coaches, besides Weis.
I also agree with you about Harbaugh. He almost took Frankie Telfort from USC which is impressive by itself.

Uh....
How are you people forgetting about Butch Davis? The man brings in top recruiting classes every year at fricking North Carolina.
Petey, Mack, Miles, Urban, Nicky all have it relatively easy.

Greg Schiano for what he does at Rutgers is pretty amazing as well, if he ever gets the Penn State job you should be able to put his name on the list as well.
