I figured we go after the one from Jax State and VA with maybe convincing Sage Ryan to come back?

Sage for all his faults was decently rated at Safety this year and played out of position most of his career.

I’ll enter the transfer portal as a fan if Ryan is back

Gilbert wasn’t good this season, but it seems the staff didn’t show him the door. You still have Spears and Toviano. Johnson may also be moved back to defense, and you have a promising incoming freshman.

From a numbers perspective, 2 may be ok depending on how the staff feels about the rest. It wouldn’t shock me if we bring in 2 and see how things shake out in spring, and then look again if needed.

I aught to go buy a 2x4 and beat you over the head for even mentioning freaking Sage Ryan coming back to LSU. The hell is wrong with some of you people? Didn’t yall see how bad he sucked the last 3 years? And you want more of that?!

If the staff remains content with Gilbert at one of the starting safety spots they cannot expect to be a contender next season

Go look at PF Grades, he wasn’t as bad at Safety as you think he think. He wasn’t a good CB at all and that soured the fan opinion on him.

There is a reason he started over the younger guys again this year. I would rather keep Ryan than Gilbert honestly and if Ryan gets passed up by the younger guys, his experience would be good.

Without Ryan, safety is the worst position on the team currently.

I can not believe that people even quote PFF ratings. They are utter nonsense. Did you know that Sage Ryan had a higher PFF score than Whit Weeks? On what planet is that remotely believable. PFF grades are sheep poop! I have seen more than enough of Sage Ryan to know he stinks. And BTW, so did Major Burns which thank God has run out of eligibility. The reason Ryan started over some younger guys is because they were not up to the task.... as of yet at least. 100% of the posters here that have expressed an opinion say the safety position has been a basket case.

Gilbert was worse than Burns and Ryan in the secondary this year. He also wasn't good at TAMU either. They need at least 2 starting S out of the portal.

No one says they are. I’m sure they are looking for a couple of upgrades at FS and SS in the portal, but we need some depth behind them, especially if someone also has to play Star at times.

I’m just saying you don’t run both Ryan and Gilbert off when we’ve already lost Allen. You pick one or see who leaves and hope the other won’t bolt if they are a backup next season. Who know if the staff suggested that he move on, but Ryan was obviously that guy.

Look I haven’t said Ryan is a typical LSU safety of the 2000 to 2017 years, but losing him and not replacing him is not ideal. If we strike out on a few other guys, it wouldn’t be the worse thing to convince him to come back. I share everyone’s sentiment on Burns and Gilbert annoyed the hell out of me.

I think I read somewhere they want to see Jackson at Safety and if we sign another CB that could be the case.

It was the worse with him. Our Safety play wasn't bad, it was horrible.

exactly
LSU must have a serious upgrade at safety or all these other signees will mean nothing.

Because whit weeks would miss assignments and run himself out of plays, especially in the running game.

Sage would most of the time be somewhere near the play. Plus he was playing deep most of the time. Sage wouldn't ever make a play but I guess for pff scoring he wouldn't be out of position.

Gilbert was flat out awful this pass season. Was hoping he would have been asked to leave!

Bro what fricking games did you watch. PFF is a scam. Gilbert is trash. Shouldn’t see the field again at LSU.

When fans are so eagerly to replace kids and on the same hand shite on the transfer portal. Do yall ever once take in consideration injuries. Learning curves. Or the other 100 reasons a kid might struggle his first or second year?? I’m so fricking tired of this fan base just shitting on kids. Rohan Davey took three years by his own admission to learn the offense. You cucks now a days would have burned him at the stake and wanted every other qb in the portal yet he’s a tiger legend. Stop wanting instant results. Be patient. Let it play out.
