I really don't know why kids with this ability choose to take the early money. A million dollars today isn't what it used to be. it's a lot of money but not enough to set up an 18 year old for the rest of his life. you can get a Million insurance policy to protect yourself these days.
Because after you graduate college and pitch in the minors for 2 years (if you are really good), you aren't starting your MLB career until 24ish. Pitchers only have a certain amount of quality throws in their careers (it varies by person), but to throw 3 extra years in college takes some toll.

Thanks for posting that, things have changed somewhat since the season has started though.

I'm sure Lee and his family have basically already decided on a $$ value and that will eventually be the deciding factor.

If that team is willing to pay his asking price then I would agree. The MLB is about signability as much as talent...

This kid has other big time options so his $$ is higher

17/18 yr old throwing mid 90s has more value than a 20/21 throwing mid 90s bc the 17/18 has more potential to eventually throw high 90s.

not my point. My point is that schools across the country still ink players that throw mid 90s. That doesn't mean a school wont get that person. How do they show up in college anyways?

Well when they were in HS they probably DID NOT legitimately throw in the mid 90s. They threw in the mid to upper 80s and improved to mid 90s while in college.

Adult males physically mature a lot between the ages of 17 and 22....

Ok State's starting qb this year (Brandon Weeden) was the yankees first pick in the 02 draft and went for $1 million+. Didn't pan out and is getting a free education and starting at a D1 now.

If he is throwing 94 mph, he will rise in that mock draft and could slip into the 1st round if teams are assured he will NOT play college football!!

Trust me on this, HE IS GONE if throwing 94.

once professionl in baseball, you are still elligible in football, but not for a scholly. without a booty like clause,he is paying his own way.......

JB had 2 brilliant clauses in his pro baseball contract. (1) when sept call ups came, he must be included, no matter where he was, and (2) if he went back to school, the Marlins picked up the tab. Now, for adding those clauses, he had to repay a % of his signing bonus, but you can't have everything

i understand what you are saying but i believe there is a statistic that proves college players make it to the bigs quicker than high school. Wasn't the number one pick in the draft a college guy last year? at the beginning of the season it was said Anthony r. was being considered as the #1 pick. go back to pryor, j.d. drew, ect. m.l.b. values college guys.

Didn't Matthew Stafford get about $50 million guaranteed last year? And didn't Strasburg get like $15 million? If Zach Lee has the potential to be an NFL 1st round pick at QB, he should come to LSU and develop his talents in both sports. I think he wants to come to here and do that. I think that the money will have to be really good for him to pass that up.

Buddy of mine sent me this. I think it is from the Perfect Game ranking.

55. ZACH LEE, rhp, McKinney (Texas) HS
SCOUTING PROFILE: The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Lee would be getting more attention at the top of the draft if he wasn’t a highly-acclaimed quarterback who has signed to Louisiana State to play both football and baseball. A classic pro-style QB running a spread formation, Lee has thrown for more than 5,000 yards and 61 touchdowns the past two football seasons. Scouts have acknowledged that Lee is so heavily committed to playing football at LSU that he may be unsignable in this year’s draft. He has chosen not to talk to scouts at all this spring, forcing them to go through his McKinney High teammate Matt Lipka to gather information. On straight ability, Lee might have been a first-rounder in June. He has taken a big step forward this spring, throwing with a sound, easy delivery, some cross-body action on release and a high three-quarters release point. Previously in the 89-91 mph range, Lee’s fastball has frequently been at 94-95 this spring. He also throws a low-80s slider as his out-pitch, and does a very good job commanding his pitches, especially to the outside corner on righthanded hitters.

Sounds good for LSU.
