The news is not as good for UNT when it comes to John Odoh.

New UNT head coach Tony Benford has not talked with Odoh yet and there are no plans for the two to meet, Hill College coach Swede Trenkle said Sunday. The longer this drags out, the more I am starting to think Odoh won't end up at UNT.

And I don't think there is any way UNT releases Odoh so that he could sign with LSU. I don't even know if LSU is interested.

The whole process has just hit a stopping point.

It would be a tough break for UNT to lose him because he is the key to the Mean Green's incoming class.

so he doesn't think the kid goes to UNT but he doesn't think he gets a release? WTF?

He sounds like a scorned fan. There is no doubt in my mind that UNT will release him, although they could potentially exclude LSU.

Didn't we have the same issue with J'Mison Morgan when Trent was hired? Morgan wanted out, but Trent didn't talk to him forever, then he was finally released and went to UCLA.

Any word on whether CJJ is talking to Odoh or not or is that not allowed?

Johnny can't legally talk to him while he is signed with UNT. He can talk to his junior college coach, however, so it would not difficult to communicate LSU's intentions or interest.

Once Odoh asks for his release and it is granted, he becomes a regular recruit and can take official visits, etc., assuming he has some left to take.

Why would they say no release to LSU? No logical reason unless JJ burned some bridges leaving, and he doesn't seem like the type to do that.

Would you release the top JUCO center if he had signed with LSU to go play with Johnson at TCU or would you try and keep the guy by limiting his options?

I don't necessarily agree with the idea, but UNT is not obligated to let the kid out and if they do they can, within reason, limit his choices. Excluding him from schools in Texas, OK and LA seems like a reasonable choice.

See my J'Mison Morgan comment from above. Everyone knew he was going to UCLA, but we let him out with no restrictions and that's where he went.

And if you're UNT, you don't want to burn your bridges with that JC by hurting their player.

If we had a player signed that didn't want to come here i couldn't care less where he went. Maybe an sec school but tcu? How does that possibly affect us?

I see no reason why UNT shouldn't give him a full release in this situation. I understand we took their coach, but if they're not even contacting the guy, they should let him out entirely.

Just agree to a couple home-and-homes with them. Make it worth their while.

Hell, play 'em in Dallas in football if they want. The fans will like a trip to Jerry World and it can't hurt recruiting.

If we can pick up Odoh, I think we are looking at a seriously talented team next season. We would have an active, shut down defender/rebounder to add to our scoring ability around the horn and the powerful Johnny O. We would still have some depth issues, but we could play Johnny a little at 5 and with Godfrey coming in we wouldn't even have to play Eddie down low very often.

Overall he is the missing link to what could become a very solid recruiting class, especially all else taken into account.

If we sign Odoh, I don't think we have any depth issues at all, at any position.

Yeah we would have some depth concerns on the block, but a lot of depth in the backcourt. We may just have to go small at points next year. If we can sign Odoh, which is still a very big question, we'll be one of the more athletic LSU teams in a while with the additions so a smaller lineup won't hurt us that much.

Finish with Odoh and Pollard and you'll go 10 deep with players who can contribute on a high level (not counting Ludwig and Courtney and I'm not confident Isaac will be back next year).
