100% false. I would not want my University to put pettiness over the improvement of a young adult, which is EXACTLY what public universities exist to do.

I hate to be a cynic, but in the athletics context, that ideal went out the window a long time ago.

Am I the only person that doesn't think it's okay to act like an a-hole because the person on either side of you being an a-hole, too? Sorry, but the bottom line is that you are an a-hole (not you personally).

I had the thought also that this might be retaliation because he asked for more games on our schedule and we refused. Let's face it folks, college athletics is big business now and is all about money. Neither they nor us would care two figs about the guy if he wasn't six foot ten and a fair basketball player. So let it go and be thankful for the players we have gotten and may yet get. This one recruit won't make or break us.

I don't think hostile emails to rv are helpful. The articulate ones can't hurt though.

I'm skeptical this is possible.

I agree 100%. Treat others as you want to be treated. Unfortunately that's not an easy standard to meet even in one's personal life, let alone within the scheme a multi-billion dollar industry.

UNT has released John Odoh to any school other than those in the Sun Belt or Conference USA.

quote:

You can bet your bottom dollar that if UNT had stuck to its guns and held Odoh hostage, it would have been used against the school in recruiting.

Every coach in the country recruiting against UNT would have told players who were leaning toward signing with the school that they had better hope that it worked out because the school would never release them to play at another Division I school.

quote:

Not releasing Odoh would have also been tough to defend considering the parade of players who transferred to UNT after being released in several sports.

quote:

I last spoke to Hill coach Swede Trenkle yesterday. He told me that Odoh had sent in an e-mail requesting a release to president Lane Rawlins, athletic director Rick Villarreal and head coach Tony Benford.

Maybe that's what he was getting at in his response to BilJ. If so, I will be writing an apology email.

It seems to me that since he knew this info of releasing Odoh was coming out today, that he would have been better off not responding to the e-mails. He was basically defending a decision that was going to be changed within the following 12 hours.

At 11:08 PM!

When I checked my phone this morning after waking up, I did get a good laugh at that.

all the denials by Johnny of not even thinking about this kid to LSU had to be just so it didn't look like tampering. I think he ends up here. That would leave 2 more schollys open if I'm not mistaken plus another will open when Ludwig von Koopa is gone.
