Just to add another perspective, it can hurt in baseball. They want you as soon as they can get you if you’re elite. Take current LSU starter Josh Pearson. He was a holdback in elementary school. Then he skipped his junior year at WM to get into the draft/to LSU pronto. Bryce Harper got a GED so he could play JUCO and get drafted sooner.

99 times out of a hundred though, yes it’s a benefit to the holdback.

I agree with this. The organizations allow those that have held back to play down but not the ones that don’t hold back. The age gaps can get too large as the kids are maturing.
