'24? If so it's gonna be tough for him with Galloway in and Green on the board. If '25 or later I'm sure the staff is doing its diligence.

So you're thinking LSU should just wait and see who Alabama offers and then follow suit? Maybe, just maybe LSU should offer according to their own evals? Yeah, let's do that.

Just took a look at his tape.

Kid is physical, and I like how they play him attached to the OL just about as much as they flex him out wide. Appears to be a natural catcher of the football, with the ability to get up-field after the reception.

Tougher to evaluate based on lower-level HS competition (1A district 7), and curious about the validity of listed measurables (6’3” & 228-lbs. per 247).

Very interesting that Alabama offered, considering he has no other P5 offers. I’m sure the staff has completed an evaluation on this kid, and perhaps they get him to camp this summer for a workout.

That being said, I would bet the ranch that BK & DenBrock are very selective when it comes to recruiting the TE position. IMO, it’s looking pretty good that we’ll end up w/ at least two (2) of our top targets for the 2024 class - Tayvion Galloway, Caleb Odom, &/or Trey’Dez Green.

Stacking two (2) of these guys on top of the four (4) scholarship TEs already on the roster would make it pretty difficult for this kid to ever see the field at LSU

Kid dominated at an under armor camp in Houston a few weeks back, against great competition. He was probably that best tightend there which is how he earned that Bama offer.

I’m not thinking anything those were your words..IDC who Bama offers I just know this kid and LSU needs to offer. His mom played basketball at LSU so there’s family ties. The kid dominated at a recent under armor camp and we’ve been in contact with him for a year now just haven’t offered him. Bama beat us to the punch just don’t want to lose a gem to the bad guy!!

We are absolutely loaded at TE.

But if he can play basketball, we need some serious help there...

I think he would offer a (forgive the term) Steve Kragthorpe style tight end that flexes out more than usual.

I see that he plays with the line a lot, but he offers a size difference that would change things up.

Mason Taylor so
----Ka’Morreun Pimpton 6-5 235 fr
----Mac Markway 6-4 265 fr
----Jackson McGohan 6-4 240 fr
Tay ion Galloway 6-6 245
Possibly TreyDez Green 6-7 255

That’s a huge TE corps and it’s going to hard to keep 6 or 7 TEs happy with reps.

I'm sure Nick is going to tell Fredrick who makes more money, a DE or TE. A kid with that upside can easily make the transaction to the other side if the TE group is too full.

Yes we have a bunch of kids in the TE group but let me introduce you to the transfer portal. Hey Taylor has one more year, Markway has to get healthy and stay healthy, in high school he's been injured the past two years. Pimpton and Galloway has huge upside, has to apply it to the field. Load the boat, attrition will take care of its self. You manage to the 85 not 25.

True.

But to manage 85, you cannot have 8 te on the roster.

Then just recruit 85 TEs.

You ever wonder why this guy couldn't convince his kid of that?

Tight ends get paid pretty well nowadays and nobody is chop blocking them.

Your statement is true as well but these days you recruit over kids more commonly because of the portal. Kelly/Denbrock want a TE heavy offense(they create matchups wrs cant) and have multiple stylistic options. The cream will rise, the crap will transfer. No different than our years of 15 wrs and only playing 5-6 any significant time.
The 85 number is becoming obsolete as well. No matter what we try to do to hedge it, it's very doubtful we go through any season with a full recruited 85(meaning no walk ons awarded count)as long as the portal rules are as they are currently. Even the 25 will be eventually obolished. We'd never have gotten where we are if they didn't allow last cycles numbers through. Transfer portal traded old problems for new ones.

Kid looks like an Irv Smith Jr. Body type. I don’t think the numbers will dictate us pursuing him this cycle with Galloway committed and Green being a heavy lean. We’d have 6 scholarship TE’s on the roster for 2024 and that’s plenty.

These issues are exacerbated when talking about tight ends in particular. It's incredibly rare to see a HS TE who, prior to getting to college, is already a true do-it-all guy; generally HS TEs are basically just really big WRs. The guys at the very tip top end might have the bodies to come in and play TE right away, but even then you're usually talking about the type of TE who mostly plays in the slot. After that, you're trying to identify guys who have room to grow into their bodies without sacrificing movement skills (mason taylor being a prime example).

This is all relevant in the present case because, as you said, the kid is listed at 6'3". In order to justify a high-end P5 offer to play TE, either (a) that measurement is simply out of date, or (b) you've gotta feel very strongly that he's not finished growing. The only other way would be if he's just a complete and utter freak at 6'3"--but if he had that type of juice, he'd almost certainly be ranked more highly at this point in time.

Bottom line - I'm not particularly concerned about not offering this kid. Maybe this is an indication we should take a closer look, but unless he's gonna wind up much bigger than that listed size, it's probably not worth it.

Would you consider me a dinosaur if I cling to the following notion?:::

I’d do my best to get to 85 as possible and allow the extras to add depth to oline.

I know what you are saying and agree that no team will keep all 85.

There is a par level that wed want to adhere to.
Granted it’s not shared by many. But it looks like this….knowing that bk is TE heavy:

Qb: 5
Rb: 5
Wr:11
Te: 5
LT: 4
iol: 9
Rt: 3

Dt 4
Ng3
De 4
Jack: 5
MLB 4
WLB 3
Cb 7
Safety 6
Nickel 3

ST gets the rest of the 4
