The entire Offensive Staff at LSU assists with gameplanning in some form or fashion, Frank included.
I have heard Wilson's ultimate goal is to become the head coach at LSU. He's going to have to prove himself as a coordinator at some point, and I'm not sure he'll be able to do that at LSU. Maybe but just not sure.
Larry Porter is a joke. He recruited lights out-and did it nationally too-but his own players at the RB position hated him with a passion.
Ridley rebuked him in front of the team off-the-field, and Keiland Williams would not speak to him directly unless he had to over the last year he was on campus.
Perfect example of Porter's idiocy: On most of Hill's runs, he breaks to daylight and doesn't always hit the proper hole. Instead, he bounces it to where they ain't, so to speak. He uses his vision to his advantage better than any back we've had in a long while.
Porter would sit backs on the bench for not hitting the hole-no matter if there was a 15 yard gain to be had elsewhere or not. We purposefully ran right into the teeth of the defense in most situations instead of using our vision. Running with your eyes and pads was actively discouraged by Porter.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. There's a reason the best he could do was the RB position coach job at Arizona State this year.
Comparing Wilson to Porter is a bad joke.

I know it would be a good ways down the road if it happened but you guys think if Frank was the head coach it would improve our recruiting? Is he getting every player he would get already? I wonder if it would change anything.

if wilson is not close to being ready for oc job at LSU, then how will he be oc at any other major college (sec or big 12). he definitely will not leave LSU for an oc job at a smaller school. first off he makes too much and secondly its a step back.
I see wilson as smart enough to learn from the experiences of others and not have to make the same mistakes. namely, orgeron and porter who became head coaches too early and flamed out. now, I don't see either one being a head coach in the next 5 years or more.

Frank says he is at home at LSU...he isn't interested in going to another program, but as you all know everyone has a price and if the right numbers came through I'm sure GE would at least consider. I know I would!!!

Frank makes so much money at LSU that the only schools that could afford him would be other powerhouses that would hire him as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator and small D-1 schools that would hire him as their head coach.
But the complete failure of "recruiting guys" as head coaches makes the second an unlikely proposition.
Of course he could be the OC somewhere, but it would require taking a noticeable decrease in salary since no powerhouse is going to hire him for that position.

I can give you 550,000 reasons he will not leave this year and $650,000 reasons he will not leave next year. NOT many schools will pay this for basically and recruiting coordinator.
also, Tenn will hire a proven guy. The Dooley experiment has been a flop and they will fork out the $$$$ to get a proven big name coach. That said someone like Petrino (unless Aub jumps at him) or Charlie Strong will be IMOP highly sought after. But that is just my opinion.

I have wondered when this would be discussed on the Rant--elevating Wilson to OC. I can't believe he is not ready for it. He is too valuable as a recruiter to lose, but remember his background before college coaching--he was a high school head coach and a successful one. I still think Stud must be held at least partly responsible for the questionable play calling and Spencer Ware is the only real recruit he's landed--he has never impressed me. I think Frank would do much better & if he is not ready now to be OC, he'll never be.

I had him in a class and he blamed much of his playing time woes on Porter being a dick. I know our backfield was good, but it seemed like Keiland was used LESS his last year. Porter brought him in and tossed him to the side for not being a prototypical hard nose rb. There is no doubt that Keiland was an explosive player who looked for holes rather than dive into the trenches.
Anyways about Frank leaving, I'm not looking to criticize his recruiting because it has been phenomenal, BUT with Porter being so great and Frank doing even better I start to wonder how much of it is really due to LA talent and LSU's appeal.
LA has been a top five recruiting state for quite some time. With a winning program, how much of it is really put on Frank and Larry's shoulders? Also on Frank's behest, last year wasn't so great of recruiting year. So while we praise him and hope he stays, let's not forget his predecessor did just as good of a job so I have no reason not to believe his successor won't as well.
I just hate the part about recruits jumping ship when the person who signed them gets hired elsewhere.
