On Friday evening, the staff welcomed in another commitment, this time from Copiah-Lincoln Community College tight end TK McClendon, a source confirmed with the Geaux247 staff. At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, McClendon had three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown for Copiah-Lincoln as a freshman last fall.

Random but if they like him I'll take it.

Welcome aboard, Mr. McClendon!

Was wondering what TE we would get.

Totally. Does he have a 247 profile? I googled him and not much came up.

Not yet, I don't even think those measurables listed for him are accurate.

Supposed to be a physical specimen. Supposedly O and E (lol) spent a lot of time with him off and on the field and decided to offer him.

Sure they didn't offer him as a buck linebacker? He's pretty good there if he gains some weight. Maybe they think bring him in and try him at both spots and see what they have?

Idk I'm just guessing. Have no idea really. His film as a DE looks decent.

Probably going to convert into a FB/H-Back.

Offer is probably for TE but they like his versatility. He plays with very little technique but looks pretty athletic.

We currently have 6 scholarship TEs on the roster. Next year it will be 5 with McClendon. I just hope we can utilize them effectively for once. We have 1 more scholarship CB than TE right now. That is insane. Seems very imbalanced.

On the hoof he looks like a beast, really long arms should provide a nice catch radius. Also played basketball in HS so he probably has a decent vert.

Only camp pics I've found so far.LINK

Agreed. He is a balanced TE as well. He plays physical and like you said is raw at both spots but still plays well so I'm sure they see a good bit of upside with him.

I think Steve E is going to use these guys to his advantage within the offense. These TEs get lost in the shuffle so many times and if you start using them then the defense has to respect that aspect, then your WRs also benefit from that.

The young TE we got last year was a very balanced guy also. I kinda see a change in the type of TE we are recruiting now. This staff likes the more balanced guys that can do both catch and block. Those are the most dangerous since they can sneak off the LOS so easily near a first down or near the EZ. Like it coach O.

Different coaching staff. And this guy can play offense or defense.

The Tight End position is going to be a much bigger part of the offensive game plan than in the previous decade or so save a year or two here and there.. Thaddeus Moss is said to be in position to enter the season as the starter at the spot and it's because of his pass catching ability. The blocking tight ends will always be out there and definitely will be needed, but the days of watching the tight end group as a whole come away with under 20 total catches in an entire year are over in a big way. So it's not surprising to see the staff go out and get one. They are having to play catch up in a big way to make the position get filled out by guys they want in the room. They are most likely going to get Ray Parker I'm this class and that would have us entering the 2019 season with Moss in his last year, Mclendon entering his junior season after playing through his second season this fall, and have Ray Parker coming in as a freshmen, and wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see Parker take a redshirt that first season at LSU. I think we're going to see some big things coming from the tight end position and while I realize that has been said and beaten to death very year and just never has happened, I think this time it actually is going to happen....

You're totally forgetting Pettigrew, who looked like he could be poised to get some major touches this year. He'll be a junior when Ray Parker and McClendon hit campus.
