Really unfortunate for us since that’s a position of need
Over all it looks like a down year for DLine.
But especially in LA. Doesn’t seem like we had any top end DLine come out like we have had recently.

We've already offered 2 in state DTs for next class.

They will have to load up at DT next class, at least those 2 in-state guys and 1-2 out of state guys.

LSU has never struggled getting skill players. I consider edge rushers skill players.

Not really. They’re a linebacker/DE hybrid whose almost sole job is to rush the passer. Like a WR catches, and a RB runs, and a CB defends WR’s. Skill players.

So a defensive end/edge is a skill player now?

I like how you just made that up. Who do you think sets the edge on defense. Stops the run maybe.

On the brightside this state has given us Campbell, Emery Jones, Zalance Heard, and Tyree Adams on the OL

Truth is, last year was a down year for defensive linemen as well. Last year we signed two of the top three defensive linemen in the state in Quincy Wiggins and Tygee Hill, while losing J'Mond Tapp to Texas (who played in all of two games this year and had only one tackle). Another player rated somewhat high was Walter Bob, who signed with Alabama and ended up in junior college.

Bob had a big freshman year at Hutchinson CC in Kansas, by the way. He had 30 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. We might want to keep him in mind for next year's class.

Two other marginal defensive line players signed elsewhere - Shone Washington went to Georgia, where he played in one game this year and had one tackle, and Maxie Baudoin went to Tulane, where he also had only one tackle. We recruited Washington early but then dropped off him.

Fast forward to this year, and the top defensive lineman on 247's Louisiana rankings is TaDerius Collins, who LSU isn't actively recruiting. He's No. 18 in the state. No. 19 is Ashley Williams from Zachary, who I suspect we could get if we wanted him but we haven't done much with him. And then Dylan Carpenter is No. 21. There is no Louisiana defensive tackle ranked in the top 700 by 247 - the highest rated one is Kyran Bourda from St. Augustine, who's available and maybe we should look at him (he's no. 702 in the country).

So really, other than Wiggins you don't have a single defensive line recruit in the past two years from Louisiana who's much more than a run-of-the-mill 3-star player.

As highly coveted as defensive linemen are, that is a really rough run of luck the past two years not to have much of anybody to choose from inside the state.

Great info man!

You nailed it that basically La. was down the past 2 years for DT talent. If we have 2 good in state guys next year, we need both plus another 2 all at DT from high school then address with 1-2 DT from portal. We have a good DE/Edge class this year with Womack & Co. and Wiggins last year, so we can pull 1-2 Def ends next class to make an exceptional DL class in 2024.

Yep.
And they're gonna pull 2 or 3 DT's from the Portal this year - don't forget about the after Spring Practice Window - and go hot and heavy on the elite HS guys for next year.
For me Lee, Shand, and Swinton would be a plus haul for the early window. Still got Bowl season to shake out, too.
Pretty safe to say that's been the plan and they're already way ahead of us.

That conversation gets bandied about more in the NFL game.
By the by - do we know if the ipodqueef and The Pirate Quim have ever been seen in the same room at the same time?

Amen.
Who knows but the two highest rated On3 guys left are:
Keeshawn Silver DL RS-FR 6-5.5 289 North Carolina
Devin Phillips DL SR 6-2 305 Colorado State (Monroe/Neville)
Could it be one of them? Silver fits the multi years left profile. Phillips is from Funfoe and brings some issues which have slipped my mind right this minute.
I wouldn't be surprised if they have guys targeted for after each Bowl game but after Spring Practice is prolly the next wave of quality contributors - interior DL, anyway.
