This is why you never panic about recruiting in July.

Cbk finished fifth in his first year and is currently seventh and the aggy/bama alters come in and try to get you to think the sky is falling.

1) Class isn’t finalized until December. We still have a long way to go, and the dominoes haven’t fell yet. Still, we should be optimistic with Hankton leading Miller and Bussey’s recruitment.

2) There are still major concerns about the defensive recruiting staff. Last nights pull was from Brad Davis. He’s elite. Hankton is recruiting his arse off. They’re not the problem. Cooks, Steeples are not elite. Lindsey is still MIA. The staff deserved the criticism and they need to make changes for next recruiting cycle.

Some of us were complaining only about the d line recruiting. The situation is basically the same.

Reasonable criticism is understandable. Saying the sky is falling in July is ridiculous. I’m not referring to reasonable criticism.

Most of this so called "panic" in july stemmed from the 2 top players in the state, at the time, deciding we weren't even worth a 2nd thought, despite continuous pumping from insiders and fans alike they we were in good shape when things weren't further from the truth. Add that to the already, and still, barren DL group and you get said "panic". What some call panic others call reality.

That's OK. But there was a lot of hyperbole on here regarding this staff. Lots of "they can't recruit" and "Kelly has always been a bad recruiter" type stuff.

As another said. reasonable criticism is understandable.

Like I've said countless times, if you want Steeples gone you are in for disappointment.

Cooks is recruiting for his job and may end up saving it as well. The defensive backfield has taken all the blame for the defensive struggles with Cooks and Steeples bearing the brunt of the criticism.

The people in charge see the situation for what it is though, which is that the dline has underperformed up unti the Missouri game, and that has put undue stress on the defensive backfield.

I'm beginning to think that if Cooks and Steeples finish out strong on the field and with recruiting, they will both be back next year.

Makes sense. Not filling the DL position while Lindsay was out earlier in the season was asinine.

It’s insane how well the offense coaching hires have hit meanwhile the defensive staff had flopped. Steeples and Lindsay have mediocre resumes compared to our offensive coaches.

It was terrible, for Lindsay most of all, but I'm actually proud of how our University has handled his situation.

Anyone who wants to see him fired just so we can hire another coach is cruel, and short sighted as well.

Coaching is a fraternity. Had we handled his situation poorly, it would reflect in our ability to hire upper tier coaches in the future.

However, going forward coaches know that if something happens outside of their control, like a health issue, that LSU is a place that will stand behind them, and that is goodwill that no money can buy.

100% correct and before anyone says well they should have just "moved" him to an analyst role, he was under contract as our dline coach. Unless Lindsey himself wanted to do that then it wasn't going to happen.

I'm happy we have Jenkins to help but I wish it'd happened sooner is my biggest complaint with that whole situation

We also don't have any idea of Jenkins previous commitments. For a retiree, he works a whole lot, with NFL teams and a lot of the best College programs as well.

Do you really think someone with the attention to detail that Kelly has just sat around on his hands while the losses piled up and suddenly was like, oh wait let's call Pete ?

Or, like some have said, had to have Woodward come in and force his hand to bring him in ?

I wonder if some of yall engage your brain before you post some of the drivel that we see here. It beggars belief.

There is a chance, that we could finish with

#22 player ATH
#79 player WR
#232 player DL
JUCO DL

That covers needs and gives us some elite players at two different positions.

BK is someone that early on in numerous situations we doubted some of the things he was doing, and every time it’s always worked out the way it should. This guy takes his time, he make sure he leaves no stone unturned and sometimes it just takes a little bit of patience. But what I have learned is, in time Brian Kelly will fricking get the job done. Don’t ever underestimate this guy.

Not sure if that's a general statement or directed at me, but Kelly himself said something to the same effect I did on finebaum. Basically they thought Jancek could get it done, but it was new territory for him and they decided he needed some help so they brought in Jenkins. Seems like they wanted to give their staff a shot to fill in the gaps first and it just wasn't working so they brought in help. I understand it but still frustrating nevertheless.

You were on Finebaum? Or did you forget to put the commas like so:

Kelly himself said something, to the same effect I did, on finebaum.
