A five-star running back and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Mississippi, Akers considered LSU an afterthought for the early part of his recruitment.

That was until Jabbar Juluke took over for Frank Wilson as the team’s running backs coach.

“I’m the guy,” a smiling Akers said. “I’m the guy they wanted. They want me to come there bad. Their message was that I’m the guy and they’re going to recruit me hard.”

“Coach Miles, Coach Juluke, the staff and the people in general are very family oriented,” Akers explained. “That’s definitely a big factor because I don’t want to go anywhere that’s all business. The family part comes and plays a part, and so does recruiting my real family. They don’t want to go somewhere that’s all business. They want it to feel like a second home. They made my top 10 and I’ll be taking a closer look at them.

They don’t want to go somewhere that’s all business. They want it to feel like a second home. They thought the same thing I thought, and it’s a great school and a great situation also. I can see it.

It'll be tough to get a big time guy out of miss but who knows, maybe it's not expensive these days.

Not sure how new you are to this recruiting thing. Do not waste your time following highly recruited MS prospects with zero ties to LSU. They aren't coming here.

That definitely scratches out Bama.

This is a Mississippi kid.

Never count a MS kid in until you get the signature.

Never get hopeful because the OM and MSU boosters swing in within the last few days. Happens every single year.

Maybe MSU boosters. Ole Miss might look into playing nice in the kiddy pool for a little while

naw, they are completely dug in. Until Mississippi gets more national coverage both of those schools will continue to act like it's the 80s in CFB. Just look what both schools have gone through in the last 6 months.

For me, I feel more confident with him than most other Mississippi recruits just for the fact he's a running back. Right now, there's really two places to go if you're a running back and he's already de-committed from one

I don't disagree. However, because this guy is a RB, LSU might have a better chance than they would otherwise. Ole Miss is at least going to be cautious in their recruiting. MSU doesn't bring the name recognition that Bama and LSU do. Finally, maybe more than any other school in the SEC, LSU places emphasis on the running game.

Say what you want about Cam Cameron but if I'm a running back, something to ponder:

Cam's last tailback at Indiana led the nation in all-purpose yardage and averaged 7.1 yards per carry

San Diego - LaDainian Tomlinson

Miami - For the first seven games of the season before being injured Ronnie Brown was leading the entire NFL in total yards from scrimmage

Baltimore Ravens - Ray Rice - two 2,000 yards seasons from scrimmage

LSU - Jeremy Hill and Leonard Fournette

Very talented players but all of that production isn't by accident.

If Jabbar Juluke can pull Cam Akers in his first year at LSU...

The only reason I think we may be able to pull it off

It's still Mississippi though and I've seen it enough times in my life to be cautious

This is my thoughts exactly.
Plus, he's already looking at where he fits within our depth chart. LF7 is gone, that will leave him and Guice. Then Guice will probably leave early. I know MS recruits rarely work in our favor, but I feel different about this one.

I listened to a 15 minute interview yesterday of Myles Brennan and his experience at the elite 11 semifinals. They asked him are there any players in particular he is targeting and will target at the Opening to get them to join him as a Tiger. He mentioned 1 guy: Cam Akers. He said he met him at the bayou picnic but has known about him for years. He said they have been talking the last few months and that he is going to do everything he can to get him on board! As good as Myles is playing right now, he could actually have a big impact, especially at the Opening. Both are Mississippi kids and Brennan could definitely help reel him in. The only other place I would be legitimately worried about is Ohio state right now.

Being in Mississippi, I agree with you. Cam has played quarterback for two years and will play that position again this year. He is s top player that can play several positions.
