The Joy of Low Expectations

Ed Orgeron has left LSU's football program in shambles just as he did at his other stops such as Ole Miss and USC. It's now up to Brian Kelly to dig through the ruble and start rebuilding.
That so many are celebrating Early Signing Day results as a great success just demonstrates the joy of low expectations. Would any have expected two years ago that LSU would ever be seventh in SEC recruiting behind the likes of Kentucky, Tennessse and Missouri and barely ahead of Arkansas, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Ole Miss. The rating of those who decommitted from LSU is higher than the class that has signed thus far. A&M, Alabama and Georgia are lapping the field now, including LSU.
On the positive side, there are a few quality players still considering LSU for the February signing date but Kelly will have to go heavily into the transfer portal to bring in players who are discontent where they have played. He has had few recruiting successes thus far but let's hope he can finally put together a quality coaching staff and reverse the trajectory of the program.

It’s half a class, with a Top 10 weighted average caliber of player, with a ton of high profile guys still left to fill out in February.
All in a transition year with a strong coach who’s only got half a staff because his targets are playing in bowls and playoffs.

Have you looked at the rankings? LSU is 8th in the SEC right now with 13 signed. A&M, Bama and Ga are the top three and all signed over 24 so far. Kentucky is 4th with 20 and is only 18 points ahead of LSU accoding to 247. We won't catch up with the top 3 teams but will most probably end up 4th. Not bad for a team who hired a coach 3 weeks ago. The top 3 have been recruiting and promising NIL deals for these kids for a year or more. We didn't do too bad for all the chaos that has happened the last 2 years.

Saban’s first class in 2000 was ranked #21. One year later LSU won the SEC. In Year 4, they won an NC. Miles’ first class was ranked #22. Year 1 they played in the SECCG. Year 3 they won the NC.
This class isn’t up to normal LSU standards but it’s comparable to those transitions. One class isn’t the end of the world. It can be overcome.
