Hill, Spears, Clayton Class
Jamarcus class was the most fun recruiting bash bc everyone had a great feeling he was coming to LSU when the kid from Neville switched to OM early in the day.

Early Doucet, we played highschool ball together, a year younger than me so it was a pretty cool deal watching all the letters and notes the coaches and schools would mail in.

That 85' class was pretty sick! Yup Tiger Rag was it! I had a buddy at work that would get Tiger Rag and after he was done with it he would pass them on to me. Good ole days

I started paying attention when RP was being recruited. Followed Keiland Williams the following year. Joe McKnight sucked me in though. I got really into that class and then felt my first recruiting heartbreak when my brother called me at class telling me he was announcing in red and yellow and pulled that hat from under the table.

2006, with Charles Scott, Richard Murphy, Calves, Al Woods, Jared Mitchell, among others. I was a freshman in high school and created the actual "LSU Recruiting Board" when all recruiting talk was still on the Rant.

2004. Then my first bash was when they signed like 6 guys. Everyone was so happy about Perrilloux and RJ Jackson. Nobody cared about Brandon LaFell.
I remember we used to post random recruits photos on the Rant and people would guess who they were. Those were the good old days.

I started following recruiting around my junior year in high school. My senior year was the first big class I really kept track of, 2001. That was cool because they were all my age. I ended up having a summer class with Spears and Addai.
I saw Spears doing SEC Network stuff here in St Louis a couple years ago and talked about the weirdo teacher we had. CSB.

Went to the Bayou Bash my junior year of HS. It was Saban's first recruiting class. Been hooked ever since. I remember following the Damian James recruiting saga prior to Saban's arrival but didn't follow the class as a whole. As a kid, I also recall the story of Gerry Dinardo finishing his introductory press conference at LSU and then getting on the road to visit Kevin Faulk.

Really started following in about the early to mid 90's when the only sources (that I knew of) were newspapers (times-picayune nifty 50 and morning advocates dirty dozen and second dozen), Tiger Rag, and some magazines from the news stand (Jeff Whitaker, Forrest Davis, and Southern Recruiting). Also might catch Max Emfinger on WWL radio being interviewed about the recruiting situations of LSU and Tulane. Some years would go to the high school state championships in the dome. Keeping up with recruiting wasn't easy in those days.

Harvey Williams is what got me interested in recruiting. But recruiting wasn't something you could follow as easily as you can today.
The thing that led me to this web site was the recruitment of Ryan Perrilloux and that class.
Best part of that class was Dea's suit. That's when I learned not to count your recruits until the NCAA clearinghouse is done with them.
The Keiland Williams was another one.
Which goes to show, the guys we think LSU has to get aren't always the ones that make the difference.

'02 I remember Lorenzo Booker picking FSU over Nd. That's the first recruit I remember. '03 followed a little closer with LSU's class.
04 probably first group I was all in on.

Nicky Savoie. QB recruit. Thats crazy he got drafted as a tight end and actually caught a pass for the saints in the NFL.
I was admittedly shocked to find out he was a QB also. But it's really not "crazy"... your better HS athletes usually do play QB and very often get converted to another position at the college level. VERY common, not crazy.

Maybe I was stalking him, either way, I actually went to class every time for that one. Except one time I had to leave early to throw up from my hangover. Still went though!

I think the crazy part is that anyone of Savoie's cognitive ability was able to play and be recruited at QB. Let's just say he wasn't known for his brains.
