Deranged killings will still occur. One of the witnesses of the VA Tech massacre seems to agree:

i don't understand this argument, Va Tech was a "gun free zone". They did not allow concealed hand guns on campus. Didn't really seem to deter that one guy.

Meanwhile cities with restrictive hand gun laws like DC and Chicago are much safer.

So you're arguing that more handgun accessibility for students on campus is a selling point for recruits? Why do you suppose Miles, the President of UT, the Chancellor at Oklahoma amongst others all oppose it?

Y'all realize that you have to have a CCL to carry a gun on campus if this law were to pass. I don't know many students that have one. I am the only one I know of out of my many friends that has one. And I don't even carry that often

Do you guys think this law means everyone will just be given a gun? To get a carry permit, first of all you have to be 21, next you have to take safety courses and pass a test. There is nothing stoping college kids from getting a concealed carry permit now. The only thing this law would do is allow those with permits to carry to gun on campus LEGALLY. That's it. It doesn't make guns easy to get. If you think allowing people with permits to carry guns on campus will lead to more shooting because of the above reason's you are believing in unicorns/ Someone unstable enough to go on a shooting rampage because his girl friend dumped him or he he was drunk, is not going to be stopped because the campus is a gun free zone. That's just silly. You don't need a permit to buy a gun.

No, I'm arguing restricting guns has proven to make things less safe. Why it would be an issue to recruits either way is a complete mystery to me. You are just posting about it because its in the news today. By signing day 2012 who will know or care?

I have no fricking clue, I've never met any of these men so how could I know why they think what they do?

exactly, so allowing people with a CCL to carry a gun on campus will have no impact on that.

Immediately after the Va Tech massacre by a deranged gunman

Students and professors who were on campus when it happened said they wished they had been able to carry so one of them could have kept the shooter from killing so many people.

It is a serious discussion that might affect a few students but the majority will not care about it.

Getting the permit is not an easy chore. It takes some commitment and some money to get the training.

Gangstas don't buy guns through legal sellers.

Most of the people who carry under the old law in Texas are more right wingers who are looking to protect their property.

They buy a Glock, take the training course and carry.

The first shooting that occured after the law was passd happened right in front of my offce at Mockingbird and Stemmons. One driver passed the other, clipping the other driver's mirror. When they stopped at the red light (Mockingbird & Stemmons)the driver who was paassed and had the broken mirror got out of his car and started punching the other driver in the face. The driver who clipped the mirror could not drive away because other cars were stopped at the light in front of him. He reached down, pulled out his pistol and shot the guy. Charges were filed against the shoter but he was found not guilty of attempted murder and had acted in self defense.
The shooter was a small business owner who had money and product in his vehicle.

Young gangstas don't take shooting coures, they learn to shoot from an OG.

This means that probably only seniors, & upper classpersons, that have a personal carry permit could carry on campus. Most freshmen, sophmores, juniors would be to young to get a permit.

The OP was asking would it hurt recruiting. Depends on where the recruit grew up. Some neighborhoods hear gunshots weekly. Some never.
Some parents may feel that their child will be safer on campus versus their old neighborhool.
