QB,LB,DL (minus the DT in this 16' class)you have to go out of state and get. All the other positions like DB,OL,WR,RB we offer all of the top guys in state every year. To maintain a championship caliber roster you have to go OOS.
We can get more elite players OOS. You let the LA scrubs go to smaller less prominent football schools. It's never affected us in the past and won't in the future.

What? In state guys like Cam Robinson, Speedy Noil, Hootie Jones, Gerald Willis, and Landon Collins?
I am all for in state guys and have said it many times. But, I am not for the guy who thinks he is too good for LSU once he gets a 4th or 5th star. There are some guys who want to leave the state because they think LSU is beneath them. They usually end up at Alabana with the same coach who used to tell players to stay in Louisiana and go to LSU because it is better for them.
If in state guys don't value staying in state, there is nothing we can do and I would rather not have them.

Ive seen a lot of ignorant posts on the RB before but this may take the cake.

To the OP: This is perhaps overly simple, but the coaches generally have to bear two things in mind:
1) What type of players they need, including position and what type of player they prefer at that position (ex: small, fast linebackers vs. larger run-stoppers; or, tall CBs vs quicker CBs, etc.)
2) Best players available. At home and across the country.
I believe that LSU does place a strong emphasis on signing Louisiana players whenever possible as long as they're the right player. I've seen it mentioned more than once on here that some other schools cast a much wider net than LSU and offer pretty much all the top players across a much wider region.
That LSU does not do this to the same extent, and that they are more judicious in offering kids (instead of dishing out 100 arguably non-committable offers), shows respect for local talent. LSU can't possibly take every talented kid and some kids aren't good fits for the system. LSU actively pursues those players that it thinks can help the program, and it doesn't string too many players along, potentially screwing them out of other opportunities.
That LSU signs some out of state kids is necessary. All schools do it; most outside of CA, TX and FL do it way more. You don't turn down Patrick Peterson, Chidi or Toliver if they are the best fit for the school.
The mythical fence is about relationships: getting to know the coaches and players around the state and having an open dialog with them. This way information flows freely and honestly both ways, and it helps the best prospects get noticed by LSU and helps other players get valuable advice from the LSU staff to help them make the best decision for them.

Yes, we need a few OOS guys, but not more than 5...end of story!
like you know. seriously. so you think you are a better talent evaluator than our entire coaching staff. Louisiana does produce more than it's share of outstanding talent but not always at the right positions in the right years. also, there are some of these guys that just going to go out of state, as witnessed two classes ago.
imo, the state of Louisiana (with 4 million people) is NOT large enough to produce 20 to 25 top SEC performers every year and never has been. hell, the city of Houston alone has over 6 million people!
the ONLY college I know of that has tried to play in in state talent only is Tejas under mac brown. it worked for awhile but tejas has SEVEN TIMES as many players to choose from and even then it only worked when tejas was getting the pick of the litter.

If we built a full roster of just LA kids we would be at best mediocre.

To play in the final 4 each year, you have to recruit nationally and at home. LSU was 8-5 last year, landing in the middle of the SEC West. LSU is a long way off from where they would like to be. Maybe things will change? Maybe the top players will quit trolling and truly commit to LSU, but that has not been the case in the last few years.

We' re going after the best of the best...whether they live in Louisiana or not.

So we were the #2 class in the country in 2014 and the #5 class in 2015 without top players commits? News Flash....we didn't get everyone we wanted but we got lots of top players in the last few years.

Why don't you send a text to all in state guys and tell them what an LSU offer means instead of bitching how kids hold us hostage trying to get offered for their teammates, if that's your beef.
If there is a Louisiana kid who is offered and hasn't committed, shame on him if his spot is taken by an OOS kid.

That is - and this is really saying something - possibly the worst post I've ever seen on TD.

You haven't followed recruiting very long

Is this LookOut_LSUTigers or whatever the hell is name was? You have that same, "we need to go after only Louisiana players" mindset.

Lol yes.... Yes he is.... Adams, Tolliver, Paris, Valentine, Bower, Harron, Bain, hell just about every quality starter is from oos. Most have ties to Louisiana if that makes this guy feel better? I think LSU is in a much better position now that we have some national recruiters. Some of these La kids want the attention and play around too much, well going grab some great takent oos will fix that shite. Especially the ones that have dreamed of playing for LSU, they can commit now and just enjoy their process. If they are highly recruited other schools will still come after them and they can still go see big games and eat free all over. Others do it to LSU so it's our turn to make these teams pay out money for nothing. LSU should and will get the best talent availible no matter where they reside. Go get em coach O, Steel, Wilson, Cam, and close em out Les Miles!! Time to stack the talent to the brim!! GT

Holy shite 101 down votes? I don't think I have ever seen that many on a site before and he's not even an Ole Miss, Alabama, or Texas A&M fan.
