Analysis: LSU needs a quarterback in its 2018 class. Elite Louisiana quarterback Justin Rogers officially visited LSU in November and while he has remained solid in his verbal to TCU, Matt Canada gave the 4-star All-American plenty of mull over leading into a Dec. 22 decision. Right now, I’d put it at a coin flip that Rogers either sticks with TCU or flips to the Tigers. If and when that ship sails, it will open the door for Alabama dual-threat quarterback James Foster to take this spot in the class. However, he has entertained other schools and has yet to visit LSU.

Confidence Level: 50 percent

RB: Chris Curry, Tae Provens, Pooka Williams

Analysis: Both Chris Curry and Tae Provens are solid in their commitments, and LSU could sign these two running backs and bolster their backfield depth in a big way. The elephant in the room remains Harold Joiner. The 4-star Alabama native named LSU as his top team, but there’s no reason why he hasn’t committed yet. Pooka Williams has been the most buzz-worthy prospect in the state with his legendary postseason performance. If he elects not to sign with Kansas on Dec. 20, it will open up the door for LSU down the stretch.

WR: Terrace Marshall Jr., Justin Watkins, Kenan Jones, Jaray Jenkins

Analysis: Kenan Jones and Jaray Jenkins are two outstanding pieces in place at one of LSU’s most important areas in the 2018 class. Of course, Terrace Marshall Jr. is the team’s top offensive target, and the Tigers have remained in strong position for some time. After a successful official visit last month, expect the 5-star wide receiver to choose LSU on Dec. 22. The Tigers have gained a ton of momentum for one-time commit Justin Watkins, who will make a decision at the Under Armour All-America Game. He should fill the role of the slot receiver and return specialist in this class.

TE: Zach Sheffer

Analysis: LSU landed an ideal H-back for its system during the elite high school camp in Zach Sheffer, who will be utilized in multiple positions across the offense. The Tigers may look to add one more tight end and the obvious candidate is Glenn Beal, who has been close to committing to LSU a handful of times. However, if numbers continue to grow tight, it’s hard to imagine taking a second tight end instead of a quarterback, wide receiver or defensive back with a 25-player cap.

OL: Cameron Wire, Badara Traore, Damien Lewis, Cole Smith

Analysis: Offensive line depth and talent is a major need for these Tigers. Offensive line coach Jeff Grimes takes a lot of flack, but he has assembled a talented collection of early commitments in Cameron Wire, Badara Traore, Cole Smith and Damien Lewis early on. Traore, the No. 1 junior college tackle, and Wire, the top-ranked lineman in Louisiana, headline this group. LSU will host some other tackles in January, but this four-man haul seems to be complete.
