4.7 40 time

Damn, that's slow for a RB.

If we're taking this kid over Storm I really don't understand this move at all. Storm seems way more athletic than Spencer.

me too, man. i am definately confused. looks like a great pick-up though. we love recruiting, but we really don't know what's going on so we use logic (at least our logic) to follow this stuff. by the way, was Morton Anderson from Iceland?

Runs a 4.71? Seems slow for a RB take

the page from the blog I found this on is gone but here is what they said about his speed last month after running at some camp:
quote:

Spencer Ware was timed this weekend running the 40-yard dash in the 4.6 range with a laser which is absurdly fast for being 227 pounds.
After the 40-yard dash, Spencer mentioned to me that he is in baseball season shape, pretty much insinuating that he could have run faster if he was training for this type of an event.
I am pretty sure Spencer was asked to attend the combine two days before the event. So its not like he has been working with his personal trainer for months leading up to the event. Sometimes a good trainer can drop one-tenth of a second off your 40 time just working on your start and running form.
Spencer Ware simply just rolled out of bed Saturday morning at 7:30 am and just a few short hours later busted out a couple of 4.6 laser 40-yard times. They were some of the best times of the day.
He also boasted a 37-inch vertical to answer any of the questions about his explosion at 227 pounds.
Not too shabby. (ESPN.com listed him at 4.72 seconds.)

That's probably right at Charles Scott's 40 time as well. It's not as if either guy will be asked to be a speed back.

Does anyone else think that the hold up with Storm was for Ware to make up his mind? That seems to make more sense than anything else right now, especially since Ware was down to LSU and UNC for a while.

Are? I think they already were after last year.

We have commits from recruits in OH, VA and KS. My points was we have always been able to recruit in the South, but our reach is now extending to the North and West.

Spencer Ware played Shortstop and batted over .400 for his HS team as a sophomore.

That article is complete BS. You're not going to be that much faster even in "football shape". If the kid is slow, hes slow, period. Otherwise, everyone would be increasing their speed by .3. Its natural, not something you can vastly improve. Yea, he might get better technique but its not going to improve his speed that much.

Anyways, he has impressive quickness for a guy his size. Just don't expect him to be running past people at the second level.

for all the people bitching about 40 times, just about everything from people up that way is highly complimentary of him and his ability as a RB. Ohio puts out some damn good football talent every year as well

Man even though he isn't "fast" per say this kid is as electric as they come for player his size. I saw him play 3 times last year and he has juke moves for days (he played QB) I think he can be a RB no doubt.

GREAT pick up for LSU. He destroyed at the tOSU senior advanced camp, and was easily the best senior prospect there.

How he develops will be interesting to watch. He showed up at OSU @ 230 lbs but was still very quick and agile on his feet. Made great cuts/athletic plays all day long.

He could be a very, very good RB in the SEC. Keeping him from the MLB will probably be LSU's biggest challenge this coming year. He's gotten a lot of interest on the diamond. Pro baseball scouts at nearly everyone of his games this past season.

My take:

Obviously narrowing down to LSU and UNC means that he is very interested in baseball.

With Mike Ford, Stevan Ridley, Seastrunk, Hilliard on the way, he may turn out to be more of a star on the baseball diamond.

It's definitely good for LSU to have recruits from as many parts of the country as possible, because it makes LSU into more of a national school.

While Ware is a highly rated recruit, RB looks to be one of the deepest positions on team.

yeah its not like players entering the NFL draft work with speed trainers prior to the combine or anything crazy like that.

Its not slow for a guy his size, no, just don't expect him to blaze past people at the second level. That is fine because I don't think hes going to be expected to do that. Just thought the article was funny. Who cares about if he prepares for the event's 40 time? Its how fast he is on the Football field.

This kid is only one inch taller than me and 50 pounds heavier. And I'm not that small. Dude must be jacked.
