Hes going to take a greyshirt but if LSU loses out on some of the players they expect to get in this class, he'll get a ship now. He said he wanted to be a Tiger no matter what...glad to hear that from him.

The Chief's DNA all over this. Good cover skills, but big hitters as LB. I want to see Baker under Chief.

as opposed to having a roster stacked like SC and players get frustrated and transfer, leaving a gap in the depth chart.
We will have a good 2 deep at most positions. Dont get down about this guys, Johns will be a great tiger.
+1

Do I get points for breaking the news before the recruiting services?
Anyway, yeah, a lot of people at school were excited about it today. Johns is a great guy. I honestly don't know him all too well, but he seems like a very nice person and very humble. He works his butt off.
I might get a chance to "interview" him because I'm part of the school "newspaper", and I normally do the sports section. I'll probably wait 'til the week of NSD before asking my teacher to do that. Any specific questions you guys want me to ask, just lemme know.

I haven't watched any film, but the kid does has measurables compared to Steltz (not that I'm comparing him to Steltz :)
Steltz Downs
HT 6'2'' 6'2''
Weight 200 210
Forty 4.5 4.5
Bench 330 300
Squat 410 400
Vertical 32 " 35 "
However, Steltz did have offers from Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, and UCLA. FYI

Also not impressed with Myles either based off of UA practices and game.
I would agree with this. I saw Myles play here in Atlanta back in the fall and came away unimpressed. Everyone was talking about him and LSU was high on him so I was eager to see him play. He does not look very big at all...very lean...almost lanky. On one play, he went for a tackle on a RB and got absolutely blown up and thrown on his back. He left in the 2d quarter hurting, came back briefly in the 3d, then left for good due to injury. Now, he did look like he had good athletic ability...good speed, good instincts, quickness, etc. Moreover, people around me were telling me that he was fighting nagging injuries and was not 100%. He had an off night...overall he had a good year and a lot of schools really want him so I'm sure the guy has skills.
I have never seen Johns play but from what I've heard it is his physicalness and toughness that sets him apart, not his athleticism. I think that is the difference between him and Steltz. I saw Steltz in high school, and was definitely impressed. Everyone knows about Steltz' physical play but he also had tremendous athleticism. He was deceptively fast and had a huge vertical.

see I was thinking 6 foot 2 and 210 running a 4.5. Or you could go white I suppose.

I was thinking loves LSU enough to take a greyshirt. Oh well.

Agreed.

I think you are correct, hopefully we see Ciron, JJ, Hebert, Riley, PP and Alem as well.

Steltz Downs
LSU cant get all 5 star recruits. The coaching staff are paid big bucks to be able to evaluate talent and fill needs. If they like Johns then there must be something special about him.
At the end of the day I'll trust Coach Miles over fantards that think they know more than professionals.

LSU had 2 National Championships in the past 5 years. Could you name the Starting Safties for the 2003 & 2007 seasons?
Could you tell me how 4 star Steltz could be considered Mediocre in HS?
Steltz was awesome in HS, hence hwy he was a 4 star.
Even Jack Hunt had offers form other BCS programs....
Rocky D and Johns....

One of Ron Cooper's strengths is suppose to be the ability to find diamond in the rough type players and turn them into NFL Draft picks...the ability to find talent where others can't.
Maybe Cooper sees something in the kid

2 of them were named Hunt and Surfer Boy.
And the names of the other two? How many were drafted and in what rounds? Is either of the four in the NFL now? Any starting or playing significant minutes in the NFL?

LSU loves mediocre(in HS) white Safeties.
Yeah, LSU tends to win National Championships and doesn't look TOTALLY LOST when they are present in the secondary. (Jack Hunt and Craig Steltz) No Steltz in the secondary in 2008 = Mass Confusion. Gotta have at least one "smart guy" back there to make sure all the "fast athletes" know who the hell they're supposed to be covering.....

Exactly right. He will be an unselfish roll player. He will play special teams. We signed the #1 safety in the nation in this class. The staff knows what they are doing. They saw something in this kid that could help the program in some way.
