a junior HB is starting over a senior one right now... and the senior was anointed as a team leader before the season even began

and the junior is doing quite well

underclassmen getting PT over upperclassmen at LSU that I can think of off hand.

True Junior over a Redshirt Junior at QB. (Jefferson over Lee)

True Freshman (Ware and Blue) over Redshirt Freshman at HB. (Ford)

Loston and Hatcher have started and played more at times over Jai who is a Senior.

This is a brilliant move by Saban. He knows LSU is completely screwed at QB after next year (basically like starting the last three years over again) and keeping us from getting an experienced QB is a simple and easy way to keep us down.

Hopefully, Mettenberger will see that he is just being used as a pawn in Saban's plot and that he does not have the QB's real interest or future as a player in mind.

Does anyone REALLY believe that one of the best recruiters and coaches in the game is going to design a recruiting plan to keep players away from teams that don't contribute or fit your scheme. What does he do, end up with nine quarterbacks?

And in a related strategy move I hear he is going to further handicap his team by instructing them to let us score 50. Thereby assuring Les AND Crowton think they have the QB situation under control AND are retained. Guaranteeing success next year, of course next year he has to do it again. But by then his master plan of recruiting QBs from Ole Miss, Arky, and AU, and FL will have caught up and he has to line Mett upbat CB.

Brilliant.

If I am Saban I let Les get all the recruits he wants. Help keep him in BR as long as possible.

Thats just silly.

In reality, Saban has NOTHING to lose by offering and possibly signing Mettenberger. If he happens to end up being the starter at some point, great. If not, its just one scholly. Bama has had stacked recruiting classes for years now. They have plenty of talent depth.

On the other hand, LSU has A LOT to lose by not getting Mettenberger. That is, after next year we are back to breaking in a freshman who has never taken a snap as our starting SEC QB. Or a walkon. The stakes are very high for LSU...there are no stakes for bama.

By possibly stealing our top QB recruit, Saban deals one of his division foes a serious hit. And that makes his route to more championships that much easier. It is a ruthless, cutthroat, and smart move. Don't think for a second that he is not aware of this.

This. It's pretty obvious to see that Saban is doing this in reaction to what Auburn is doing with top rated JC QB from last year. If LSU gets this years top rated JC QB and our offense suddenly comes to life, Bama will have to contend with the prospect of fighting Arkansas for 3rd place in the SEC West. This has everything to do with keeping LSU from getting a good QB and nothing to do with Bama needing one. They already have McCarron ready to play and the top prep QB from last year Red-shirting. In addition, they have a prep QB committed in this class. They don't have a need for a JC QB... This is to keep LSU from hitting a home run like Auburn did this year with Newton.
