Should we have kept our extra scholarship?

Should we have kept the scholly instead of taking the DB from Nicholls? I get that we needed depth, but looking back it doesn’t look like it was worth it. Could be much more useful picking up another OL, DL, or CB this class.

It appears to be a terrible decision. We could have signed a 26th player this year and had that player for 3-4 years. I don't mean to criticize the kid, but has he seen the field since the MSU game?

pretty sure they thought it wasn't a waste at the time they gave it to him.

that's just the way it goes.

juco can get you Damien Lewis or TK McClendon
transfers can get you Moss/Burrow or that db from stanford or Giles
3 stars can get you hester
5 stars can get you al woods

we just had the best season of all time. this was a shite year. im cool with it.

We missed out on eric jefferson back in 96....i was crushed. He was the best prospect...ever. he never played a down for illinois.

He was considered a better prospect back then, then Korey Foreman is today. He was that brutal.

I don’t think you really have to ask that question you know the answer!

Hindsight.

It's 20/20.

I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure Hester was a 2 star and Al Woods actually had a good NFL career just a late bloomer.

At first glance I would agree with you.

But we tried to install a whole new defensive scheme over zoom.

I'll give him more of a chance than Pelini.

In hindsight, of course. The kid looked so bad that people genuinely felt bad for him including myself. It was obvious he was in way over his head physically and mentally. He's on scholarship now and if he wants to come back you let him.
Go read the threads about him back when it was obvious we were gonna take him. Lot of people got fooled, not just the staff. Even talk of him being a possible draft pick. Bashing the staff for taking him now in hindsight would require many on our forums to also bash themselves.

you are 200% right on that!

im just saying that there are hits (burrow) and misses (traore)

we needed depth and we had to reach out

was that spent scholly on Liam S worth it?

IMO, Eric Jefferson would have never played a down at LSU had he committed to the Tigers. He was the classic “Jekyll & Hyde”. For 48 minutes every Friday night, he was unstoppable and arguably the greatest HS recruit to come out of LA. Off the field, Jefferson had serious mental illness problems and the only thing he knew was street life. Once he left his Cedar Grove comfort zone, he had no chance of succeeding in the real world, even if he would have come to Baton Rouge. Jefferson had so much talent, that evolved into a crazy story, and ended in a sad outcome.

hindsight is 20/20. They thought he could contribute to our thin secondary and obviously he couldn't so of course saving that scholy would have been better but you can say that about a number of recruits who don't work out.

This isn’t something to use the phrase “hindsight is 20/20”. It looked bad at the time, and proved to be bad. He was second team Southland conference, nobody projected him to be a draft pick. The hindsight thing about him is we now know that every other cb we have could be second team all Southland conference caliber players.
