It appears that LSU's coaching staff thinks that Gathers and Troy Jones are better than Long.

That's what I was thinking. It would be great to take a chance on home town guy like Long if he's that good, but Gathers is the big fish that TJ 'needs' to land.

Well TJ bombed on the two point guards he was highest on and if he doesnt get Hickey he almost for sure wont be around to recruit Gathers.Even if he lands Hickey he may not be.

Curious after TJ's first 3 recruiting classes are you really sold on his ability to judge and recruit talent?

Bubba you usually seem knowledgable about badketba. What's up with the hate on Shawn Long? Kid has better offers than what you keep putting (Grambling and Southern).

I have no hate for him in the least. In fact, if you read my comments, I have openly wondered why he doesn't have better offers. He looks pretty good. I doubt he will be an impact player, but he looks like an SEC player down the road.

He actually doesn't have offers from Grambling or Southern, but I'm not going to split hairs between those schools, ULM, ULL, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, etc.

The fact is, according to Rivals, he has no major college offers -- not even from Mississippi State. That could be inaccurate, especially if the State offer was recent, but that's the info we have right now.

I hope he signs with the highest level school possible and has a great career.

al if you search for shawn long there were a couple threads earlier this season. i like him, like bubba said gathers and jones are targeted next season and unless someone like jalen courtney(not happening) left the team between now and next month it probably isn't best to use one of those scholarships here. lsu needs more imminent help on the perimeter and any available scholarship or chris bass becoming a walk-on scenario will be used for that.

i do like him though, not really surprised if he's got some interest here late in the process from some bigger schools.

Not athletic at all. Only his sizez keeps him on the floor.
Not ragging the kid, but he has no shot at all, decent post moves, but only successfull against 6'5" players in high school.

He did have a very good coach at Morgan Cty that increased his ability 10 fold. IMO he is not a D1 player. Mid level at best.

Well at least he would fit in with the other TJ recruits other than Turner up until now. Hopefully O'Bryant is what he is cracked up to be but that still leaves us woefully short of SEC caliber players and still no point guard!

Because you're stupid.

Only had 2 seniors in 2011 class so we're gettin kids ready for summer ball. Think we have 7 or 8 seniors next year. Troy has offers from LSU and Tech. Josh Ivory has offers from Tech, Sam Houston and I believe Tulane. Neither is the best player on the team...Dee Wagner was first team all state, All Top 28 and all Southern, Louisiana Team. But as far as I know, he has no offers yet, because he didn't start last year like Jones and Ivory, didn't play during the summer last year and because of his size...5'8, 5'9 but he have avg 18.5, 6 or 7 assists and about 3 rebounds a game and he can dunk. But as far as I know we may be coming to LSU's camp this summer, but the coaches don't know yet, they say it will be LSU or Tulane, depends on where our main competition for the title next year goes, but we also got invited to Oklahoma State's camp in June, and the coaches are trying to see if they can fit it in, but we're bringing back 17 or 19 from this year including 4 starters, so not much from us in the 2011 class

No offense to Shawn Long, but he is not an SEC basketball player...He needs to go to a smaller Louisiana school and maybe get some playing time there. He is a good high school basketball player because he is bigger than most he faces. When he is gonna play people bigger than him on a nightly basis, he will not have even close to the same amount of success. I wish the kid the best of luck wherever he goes, but I dont believe he is anyone that LSU fans, or any major schools fans, should be upset about not gettting.

Long is visiting Oregon this weekend, and could be visiting VCU next week. For some reason this kid is gaining some attraction from programs.

Not sure how the MSU visit went, I dont think we offered on the spot and our coaches may be evaluating him.

Coaches get desperate about this time of year. If I was a marginal prospect, especially a big kid, I would wait until the spring to sign.

Long got his offer from State today, and is not contemplating visiting Oregon and VCU or going ahead and committing to State.

You do realize that basketball recruits can (and alot of high profile ones do) sign in the fall period right?

With Hickey I think it is a coin toss if TJ makes it. Without Hickey I think it is an inevitability.
I seriously doubt TJ will be getting any big time commits this fall if is still loosing to the likes of Nichols St and North Texas. He has one big time player on his roster now (Turner) and one coming (O'Bryant). So 2 in 4 recruiting classes. It is not like he is signing them at a fast pace.

You really think based on TJ's past recruiting he has someone in the wings that he is going to sign that will be a difference maker?
