OIT selects: Nick Rowland, OG
and Kony Ealy
and Kony Ealy
Posted on 3/24/10 at 10:27 pm to OBUDan
okay, so Team OIT looks like this:
QB-Barry Brunetti
RB-Eduardo Clements
FB-
WR-Kadron Boone
WR
TE
OT-Evan Washington
OG-Nick Rowland
C-
OT-Sentreal Henderson
OG-
DE-Kony Ealy
DT-Jeffrey Whittaker
DT-
DE-
OLB-Prince Shembo
MLB-
OLB-
CB-Ryan Ayers
CB-
SS-Jordan Haden
FS-
The moral of the story is, I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I've never done a draft like this, especially not this deep of one. I have been challenged in choosing whether to pick the best value at that round or what I need most at that round to have a balanced team.
All in all, I feel pretty good about the guys that I do have. Inevitably there are just guys that I would rather have.
Thoughts?

BayouCatFan selects Seth Betancourt OT
Scout:Betancourt is simply a nasty lineman. He is a high intensity player that gets good knee bend and plows the road in the running game, but can also drop his hips and anchor in pass protection. For a big guy, he does a nice job moving to the second level and sustaining blocks and can help backs pick up extra yardage. Never takes plays off and is a true team leader. Still has room to fill out in his huge frame.
BayouCatFan selects Tom Rickets OT
Scout:Ricketts does a very good job sustaining blocks in the run game, takes good angles and controls his man to create rushing lanes and seems to love pancaking defenders. He has the athleticism to get to the second level and make plays and is decisive when picking his block in space which is important. Some linemen get to the second level and aren’t athletic or quick enough to block someone, however Ricketts has no problem in that area.
I was hoping these two would continue to drop, but couldnt wait any longer. Now I have my bookend tackles.

Just for fun...
Best picks by round:
1) Ronald Powell, BayouCatFan - I think he's the No. 1 Overall by a mile and the clear cut no. 1. Too bad Bayou's team sucks
2) Markeith Ambles, OBUDan - Gotta give myself props. Not sure how a guy this talented slipped so far, but I'll take him.
3) Cecil Whiteside, TIGER PHANATICK - For my money, he's the 2nd best LB in this year's class. Huge steal in Rd. 3.
4) Jawuan James, SunTiger - Incredible he made it to Round 4. He's got prototype written all over him. Steal.
5) Corey Miller, Lynxcat - Helluva pickup in round 5. Should be an instant impact player, great pass rusher with good size. Very nice pick.
6) Arie Kouandjio, Hand - Massive OT going to a place with a great OL coach. I think we'll all know who he is in a year or two.
7) Evan Washington, OIT - How did he fall this far amongst majority LSU fans? He's got the genes, the size... he will be a beast. He's already no. 2 on the LSU depth chart at LT.
8) Lynden Trail, 102362 - I was looking at Trail as early as Round 3. He's about as bulky as an Ethiopian Distance Runner, but damn his athleticism is off the charts. Gonna be a very dynamic pass rusher once he adds the bulk.
9) Andrew Donnal, Flask - I like this guy a lot and he slipped through the cracks. Going to a school with a good history of developing OL too.
10) Justin Parker, Jembeurt - Holy Moley, what a good pick so late. This guy is a great inside linebacker and has the size to play early and often.

Lynxcat selects Chase Rettig QB signed with Boston College

Lynx's follow pick is Kenbrell Thompkins, WR
Posted on 3/25/10 at 8:44 am to OBUDan
I actually liked Thompkins, but did he sign with anyone yet? I know for a while he was going to sign with Tenn, but now I think he is considering Cinci, Arizona St., and Texas Tech.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say you are looking for a LB next, right?
Posted on 3/25/10 at 8:58 am to jembeurt
Haha, potentially.
I don't want to say too much though and give anyone any ideas.

Might be the steal of the draft that late.
Honorable Mention steal picks IMO:
54) BayouCatFan - Cameron Newton, QB
88) OUandLSUfan - Mike Hull, LB
84) mgdtiger - Trey Hopkins, OG
137) fightingsaint3 - Brent Benedict, OT
164) TIGER PHANATICK - Randall Mackey, QB

I'm employing my Fantasy Football stratagy. I'm taking best available at certain positions. I know a few of my players will end up being scrubs, but I'm concentrating on positions that I don't feel are as deep or have as much talent. That way when people are scrambleing later I can cherry pick the positions that everyone has already plundered.
That's probably the exact thing I shouldn't be doing though.

A.J. Cann
6'3, 260
5.1 40yd
From Scout:
Quickness is Cann's forte with excellent hand placement coming off the ball as a tackle and drives very well with good power from his hips and understands how to keep himself from overextending - very well coached at the high school level. Traps and pulls as well as anyone between his quick feet and awareness. Size will move him inside in college and he needs to add weight before seeing the football field.

Cann is an MMA fighter in pads. The guy impresses wherever he goes.
