I don't know if he could play, because I've haven't seen him in person. We've had shorter players make an impact at LSU.

SP may be the best 1A team ever. At least in the last 25 years.
Really thats funny........The best 1A team ever kicks onsides kicks and goes for 2 every TD.......
Please man.......
LOOK UP THE 1997 SOUTHERN LAB KITTENS THAT HAD 13 D1A PROSPECTS ON THEIR ROSTER INCLUDING SPEARS. They played a loaded Kentwood team into 3 OTs to win. That Kentwood team had Hookfin and a few other studs.
shite look up Kentwood during that times span too....
South Plaqumine is good but their style wouldn't translate very well to a team that can handle their style, fortunately in 1A it apprarently works awesome currently.
I played 1A ball from 96-2000. I also have watched every state championship since 95 at the dome.........if you thought South Plaquimine was the best 1A team ever........man you really missed some good football in the 90s.

Damn...you missed the best by 1 year.
94 Haynesville could play with any 1A team ever in LA.

I mean I think its pathetic that 1A couldn't even field a team to compete against a group that gave them the ball at the 47 yard line every kick. No disrespect to South Plaqmine but their competition wasn't that impressive.

The onside while up 62-16 was disgusting.

I mean Delhi Charter, Delcambre, Mangum, and Gueydan field 40 guys before kickoff......Thats a joke compared to the 1A schools in the 90s.

Agreed about 1a, but SP does play up when they have the chance.

I looked at their schedule and noticed that.....It would have been interesting to see the score in that Chalmette or Belle Chase game.

I think SP is the premier 1A program in the State and could match any of the past dominant 1A teams of the past. Hard to actually say who the best is since the competition and schedules are different every year. That said, Ed Daniels and JT Curtis both agreed that SP is best 1A that they have seen, and that SP is better than the Evangel teams of the 1990s.
The onsides kickoffs every time (which I have trouble justifying) seemed to be an intimidation thing to me. If you saw any of the games you know what I mean - guys were flying accross and wacking receiving team's front line.
I did see one game where SP kicked a couple extra points, and obviously a kid who is a good athlete (and SP has several of those) can handle extra points if taught the technique, so that is not that big of an issue.

Belle Chase game.
Yeah, it would have been a good one. Last year Belle Chasse beat them 14-8. Funnily enough, the QB/good WR/RB are all from South Plaquemines but relocated after the storm.

They've never had a kicking game, if they did they'd have a few more rings. In the early 2000's when they played Kentwood I think, they lost because they couldn't kick XP's. They have never had a kicking game.

Come on...........Really........I just didn't see it........I saw a team with a superb athlete at qb.....and a defensive scheme that was way to complex for the munchkins on the line of scrimmage.
Evangel during the Booty years was pretty ridiculous.
Again SP was an extremely well coached team but I still can't even put them in the top 5 1A champs.

Hey I'm just saying what Ed Daniels said, and JT Curtis agreed with him. Sure SP does not have the big name players, but that in part is because of its location. You really look at Evangel, Kentwood, Haynsville teams of past and see if they could field 3 or 4 legitimate 4.5 or below guys on offense at same time. I think the answer is no.
I am not saying SP has a kicking game, but if you don't think someone could teach a kid like Ridge Turner to kick extra points you don't know what you're talking about. Rarely does a high school team have what I would call a good kicking game. Hell Destrehan was supposed to have a kicker, but you didn't see him making any field goals in the 5A game, did you?

What does that matter? No one could stop it.
Christian Life managed 41 yards in offense the whole game. Put that in perspective. 41

like who? anyone we have ever heard of?
13 players signed D-1 scholarships?
What was Spears, an 8th grader in 1997?

No one could handle their style. They have had the highest playoff scoring run in HISTORY.
On the season they outscored opponents 685-93. Wrap your head around that.
You are not even given their defense credit.
They had 8 shut outs this year. Imagine the field positions teams got without them having a real kicker.
8 shutouts dude.
Im sure you played some good teams in your "glory days"(when every this is always "better"), but 1A has never seen a team this good in a long time.

I think what he is saying is the results speak for themselves. Everyone thinks their time was the golden years. I played 2A ball in early 90s, but I'm not going to say that Curtis is not better than most of the 2A teams that were around then.

No he was in 10th grade.......and I will get you at least 6 players than signed with Division 1 programs.......
We played this team in the 1st round of the state playoffs and they were up 60-0 at HALF....
Coaches didn't even let us watch film of them the week leading up to the game.

So since your coaches were intimidated and your team apparently had no defense, that somehow takes away from what SP did?
