I know we’re going hard for Trendon Watford in BBall recruiting and he would probably play a similar role to a Naz this year, but are we pursuing any true rim protecting centers to replace KBWs production next year?

Khadim Sy, 6-10 juco. Also, Courtese Cooper, 6-10, is redshirting to bulk up.

Edit: Correction, as someone else below noted, Cooper is listed on lsusports.net at 6-8. I've seen him also listed before in articles as both 6-9 and 6-10. Suffice to say, he projects as a rim protector with his length.

Cooper is only listed at 6’8.

I don’t think LSU will “replace” Reid and KBW as much as they’ll just be a different type of team.

Also, Reid may not be the one and done lock he and others felt he was at the beginning of the season. Right now there aren’t many, if any, mock drafts showing him as a first round pick. He’s been good, but dominant as a Freshman. He may choose to stay if it looks more likely he’d be a second round guy vs a first

Yeah but he has a 7’4” wingspan, which more than makes up for it.
He has prototypical size, actually.

Cooper is like Jordan Mickey, long arms and a leaper but not taller than 6'8,he blocked some shots in JUCO.

If N’Faley Dante reclassify’s he will be our true Center, and would make up for production there. A 5 star, and like #2 C, in the country for the 2020 class. We are favorites right now.

That’s fine and dandy but I’ve seen boards without him as a projected 1st rounder

Speaking as a college basketball fan, I am praying for the day they change this rule. Either let players jump straight to nba or commit to college for 3 years like football. Forcing them to go to college when they know they will only be there results in a ben Simmons who had no interest in the school part and education because he knew he was a generational talent. How can none blue blues build a program if the best recruits they can get leave every year.

NAZ is not ready. He might not get drafted. He has to,decide if he wants to play at LSU or be in the NBA G league. G league pays over $100k. Sampson went did not get drafted and is now in the NBA with the Bulls.

I believe 2021 is the target class for that rule change. There was an article on 247 about it this week

A better idea over straight out of HS is to allow them to return to college if they don't hear their name called in the draft at all.

I think it's a balancing act here. Like this years freshmen crop, you have Naz who is a one and done, but you have others that are 2 plus year players. It's something every program is facing and one reason why a lot of the lower class schools will begin competing in the NCAA tourney with more success. It's why last season a 16 seed finally beat a 1 seed in the NCAA tourney. These teams have 3,4, and 5 year players, while others have the 1 and 2 year players. But Wade must get those who have talent but need 2 or 3 years to develop. Or those not as talented but good players that will be in the program for 3 or 4 years. You must get the Skylar Mays types as well as the Naz type.

Agreed but it's hard to do that not being a blue blood school every year. I think Naz could easily come back for one more year and benefit tremendously for it. He's a smart guy though so I trust Wade to give him the best advice and him follow it. There's no way he should leave unless he's a lock first round pick. I'm not quite sure if he's there yet but he's improving every game and week so he very well could be by the end of the year.

Personally I think he could benefit from another year in S&C program in college before leaving for the NBA. He has trouble here in college and the NBA is a completely different animal. Simmons didn't have any trouble while in college and also has many more weapons to his game. He was basically a 6'10 PG/PF who could shoot 3's, hit jumpers, dunk, drive, pass, rebound and play decent defense. He was the total package. Naz isn't on that level at this time. I think he could be but he's not at this time.

We'll just have to see if any NBA team is willing to grab him in the first round and there's a very good chance someone does. I highly doubt every team would pass on a talent like him in the first round. We need another PG to emerge also. At the same time I think Smart will get so much better once it's his team. You can see him take over a game at times and IMO that would be more consistent given time on the court. Waters will certainly be missed though. His vision, passing ability and stealing is elite where I'm not sure Smart could match him at many of those categories except maybe scoring offense and all around defense. He needs to learn how to drive or when to drive and how quick to act then pass it off when he pulls defenders in with him.

Will Wade will fill all our needs and fix any weakness with style of play. There's so many ways you can play the game now a day's and Wade is a very smart coach as we saw with 2:15 minutes left in a game that was all but over. I would have liked to see him switch to that defense earlier in the game to take thier best player out of rhythm bc without that guy running his teams plays they would have fallen apart.

The team should have learned a vey valuable lesson in this game. If you affect one good player that drives their team you can affect the entire game when depth isn't there. They had no one else who could run the offense like he could and that's what shut them down. They literally didn't know how to respond. Love it and Go Tigers!!

And it doesnt matter what some hack's mock draft says months before the draft. The dude is not staying more than 1 year unless something catastrophic happens.

If you want to plainly ignore what our own coach said, so be it, he was recruited here as a 1 and done, period.
