I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see Wieber go to UCLA. She was a favorite for the HC position when Waller got it so she went to Arkansas. I think she would love to be back at UCLA. I assume they can/will pay more and she’s back in her element.

Hmm… not sure of any recruits but he may be referring to the Griffeths turning down a HC job to stay at LSU with Jay. The season just ended and with a few notable Job openings, I’m guessing that’s what it’s about right now

that is my guess as well. it seems to be the most likely bet with everything that’s going on with ncaa gym and the coaching changes/new hires right now. Chris Bogantes (lsu alum) tweeted something similar to that

That’s good news, but unless it was Georgia they turned down, I won’t breathe a sigh of relief until the coaching situation there is resolved!

Isn't it amazing though, that the toxic, terrible environment that that the gymnternet claimed was LSU may actually be the twitter darlings of UCLA

For those on TD that have not seen CGN's article on Jay Clark.

Its technically not wrong and it raises a fair point, but we only have two season's worth of body of work so far.

His first year was solid, they did finish second at SEC's and barely fell short to get to four on the floor. This past season was a bit of a disappointment considering all the returning routines and addition of a nice freshmen class. 5th at SEC's and got knocked out the opening round of regionals left a pretty bad taste.

Next year is his chance to make a statement, getting back to nationals/four on the floor would make a statement that maybe this past year was a fluke. If we don't at least get back to nationals next season (top 8) there is a major problem somewhere considering the talent LSU has.

This one shocks me. Are fans really calling for Gnat’s job?

Mya hooten to Florida rumor is shocking. I thought returning seniors would take up any open scholarships.

Hooten And potentially Victoria Nguyen from Georgia to Florida too… i honestly don’t get how they recruit so many big names when despite how stacked their roster is they can never seem to hit up to their level of talent to reach that elusive next natty for them… yes Lsu has struggled at times to do the same but we do not have half the level of stacked talent that Florida does

Don't think so but the last two years LSU has gotten knocked out early due to melt downs on beam. Now that wasn't the only issue with this post season departure but beam has been incredible shaky over recent years, especially in high stake situations.

Per the article

quote:

When LSU nearly failed to qualify to nationals and then actually failed to qualify to the team final last year due to a pair of subpar beam rotations, LSU fans immediately called for Gnat’s job. At that point, we weren’t sure if the Tigers’ beam struggles were more than a fluke. Now, though, LSU’s beam woes definitely look like a pattern. While LSU beam performs fine in regular season—actually ranking higher than Jay Clark’s famous bars team—it can’t seem to handle postseason pressure. Unfortunately, handling postseason pressure is really important. Even if missing regionals this year isn’t fully Gnat’s fault (and it isn’t), it’s easy to imagine her losing her job just to satisfy donors.

Not sure I fully agree with that last part but they are definitely walking a tight rope if they have another melt down on beam next year in the post season.

Well I have not seen a ton of LSU fans clamoring for Gnat for net to be fired so so I love how they just make things up along the way

I don't see that Florida has scholarship assistance for Hooten and Nguyen. They are still waiting for some of their seniors to decide if they are taking a 5th year. Maybe they plan to walk on.

I don’t think gnat should be fired. I honestly think the beam lineup performed pretty well (see, eg, secs after that bar rotation) - but I think the athletes has a huge problem wjth mental toughness. Maybe that’s Dane’s fault, but honestly it was the same under DD with the super seniors. Abs Jay’s undying devotion may have curtailed Ashley’s lineup choices

I don’t think Gnat should be fired either. I just question the thought process of lineups and progression. Aleah, Haleigh and Kiya will be in the lineup. But after that who goes in? On a roster for next year no one has experience other than Kai and Elena and both have built in deductions. Again Jay should utilize exhibitions. He said something about not liking exhibitions, but something is broken and that mindset needs changing. We haven’t seen Dunne compete and Alyona is 50/50. It all goes back to preparation, coaching and skill selection. That’s totally on the staff. I think just getting to nationals next year would be a huge step for a program that has come so close to winning in the past. I wanna have faith in the coaching staff, I just wish DD was still there and Jay stay as a associate or assistant. The article was not far off about his record as a head coach in the post season. I’ve said in many post it’s a different beast when your the head coach. U can recruit your butt off, get the talent on the rosters but when it matters on the floor it’s not showing. I give him like two more seasons to start really getting worried. Let Garret and Courtney settle in, maybe not have covid and injuries be a factor like this season. We really can’t get any worse so the future is bright as long as the coaches take accountability, and show change that is necessary and needed to get back on top.

Looking at who next year’s roster will have, in a perfect world with everyone healthy, I think the other three should be Alexis Jeffery as our new lead off, Annie Beard and Lilly Lippeatt (with Livvy as the first alternate on beam as long as she gets rid of the switch half). Yes, none of them will have made a singular collegiate competitive lineup by the time the first meet rolls around, however they are natural beam workers who know how to hit and have a proven history of excellent form on that event along with the ability to execute the difficulty and stay on the beam.

With all the beam chatter, They got to make significant changes and improvement on bars.

Bar's (statistically) has gotten worse each year since 2019. They were ranked #10 in the country this year (our worst event). Just hasn't been the same quality of routines since Hambrick/Finnegan/Priessman/Edney in terms of handstands and just good overall form. Our bars in general seem rushed and half the dismounts are chaotic whether its the form on the dismount or landing it.
