I saw that Haleigh and Kiya tied for first in vault today, so will both of them get to go to nationals in vault? Norah Flatley took first in AA, so hoping UCLA will advance so Kiya can go in the AA since she was a close second.
Oh, I also saw that Kiya tied on floor with a few UCLA girls and a Michigan girl, so floor may be a possibility too. Do they have tiebreakers in NCAA?

I think we really need UCLA to advance. How the tide has turned in a year with these two teams. If Michigan and UCLA advance, Kiya would go in Aa. Bryant on vault, Alyona on bars and KJ on floor.

That would be great & such a reward for those girls. They were arguably the most consistent all year.
I saw Haleigh was in the stands for the 2nd session. I wonder if the whole team was there.

Scott Rabalais quoted Jay in an article in the advocate - any one know if there was a press conference?
Also copying this from the meet thread on the rant (meant to post it here, but had both threads open):
I think the problem with Rhonda is that I believe Athlete A reported to her. instead of going to the police, she went to Steve Penny (or USAG). He was her boss, and I guess he'd said he would take care of it or that is something like how the story goes. But I think the original sin of not reporting (I think she was a mandatory reporter, potentially also) is what the gymternet thinks disqualifies her from ever being around gymnastics again. At least that is my recollection.
As for our team this year, I am going to gather my thoughts. I am, truly, heartbroken for them, even the super seniors, though, this largely has rested on their shoulders. But at the end of the day, coaching could have taken them out of lineups and didn't. Jay, obviously, didn't do a great job this year. I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but does anyone think there is any possibility that he knew they couldn't do it this year, and so had this strategy of continued over use on the super seniors to save/ease the freshmen into it. Like, the one time Aleah tried to do 3 events, she fell on two of them. Maybe he knew that about her and said, well, its highly unlikely for us to win with the talent around this year, let's make a longer term plan for the next two years and ease these girls into it?
As for my biggest takeways, I think KJ will be a star. I feel bad for Haleigh who didn't have a great season (only measured by last year's season - she is a star for us and I hope she gets to vault at nationals). I think injuries were a problem, but something was off from the second canceled meet, and we could never get back on track? Was it distraction/discontent from the AJ situation? NIL? I don't know. But they have to figure it out and re-center. And they need to address some of the continued form issues, especially on bars - I will give credit to Gnat and Courtney - they made adjustments on beam/floor this year to give us a better chance. Jay just won't. Alyona and probably Livvy, if they can't do a full twisting double tuck, need to do a full pirouette/stalder into a double tuck for bar dismounts. Maybe Elena too as she has consistent problems with her dismount.
I am sure I'll have more thoughts, but man, I love gymnastics, and my heart is broken that they got out so soon. I hope there are some additional upsets, so I feel like we have some company in our misery.

It seems like Rhonda followed protocol by reporting it to Steve. That’s the chain of command & how it goes in most corporate settings. Could she have done more? Maybe but I don’t think she did anything to lose her job & be ostracized by the gymnastics world.
Would love to have her if we fire Jay. The gymternet & their soft feelings can kick rocks.

Do you think Woody will cut Jay loose? This program seems to be headed in the wrong direction under Clark's tutelage

I think it is WAY premature to even talk about firing Jay. Granted there were some issues from this year, and hopefully Jay will see them and have a plan for them going forward!

No not this year. Next year the pressure is on though.

Rhonda did not follow protocol. If someone is potentially sexually abusing a child U don’t just tell ur boss ur go to the police as well and straight away so no one else gets abused. I don’t want her anywhere near this programme . Who cares if ur ostracized by the gymnastics community - which why u would be if I have no idea because ur reporting child abuse and there needs to be an investigation no matter what. If Rhonda was hired I could not support this programme. I think give jay another year to turn it around. Bars has been our problem event all year in my view - if he doesn’t change up the routines then he needs to go because no one can look at those routines and think he made them as consistent as possible so that people feel confident. If I knew I had a built in deduction every time I probs would feel stressed too. If we can get our confidence on beam and get the bars routine consturction right so we feel confident I have no doubt this team can win a national championship.

Bars and Beam all the time. I agree he gets another yr. but also I think at this level it’s about winning we can’t let the team flounder for any length of time.
Do y’all think we could outspend OK. For KJ? Good coaches are gunna get hard to find with Clemson coming on board and you have to think Texas and A@M are gunna have one sooner rather than later.

I agree that kj is the best coach in ncaa - she doesn’t generally recruit the big big names but manages to be at the top every single week. Really hate her floor choreography so hopefully that part wouldn’t come lol. I think jay has tried to copy dds approach of big difficulty all the time but she managed to give the team mental strength to do that difficulty consistently so built in deductions didn’t matter! We don’t have that so let’s fix it up. I also have to say that Aleah was not consistent on her floor routine all season so I would rather she did 3 easier passes and same with haleigh but that may be due to her foot Injury. Every time they both went I held my breath

By reporting to her immediate supervisor, yes, that’s following protocol. Her deposition is public information and can be easily accessed.

Sorry have to disagree - it’s a crime reporting to supervisor is not enough when children are involved.

Agree- for me, KJ is the best coach in NCAA. She does not always get the 'top' recruits but she gets the most out of her recruits. They compete cleanly, confidently, and develop well during college. You do not have to do much with development if you have a lineup of elite stars (eg Florida) but OU does not always get those.
Really hoping both Kiya and Haleigh get to nationals. I also feel that apart from illness, Kiya and Haleigh were put under the pressure of carrying the team, and it got to them by postseason, especially as they are both dealing with health issues. The star AAers should not feel like the success of the meet rests in their hands to 'rescue'.

If my math is right, LSU will finish the year ranked 18th. Wow.

Their worst finish since 2011. Finishing 5th at SEC's is also their worst finish in quite some time.

As much as it is terrible to continue to harp on, but Russiangym is right - haleigh and kiya are the team, essentially. And LSU, with the current super seniors, has relied on solid all arounders to save the day since the likes of the finnegan, priessman, Kelley days. The team would not have done well in the Harold, Edney, Kirby senior year if it hadn’t been canceled either - that was the real first year this class didn’t step up and there was no cover (and for whatever reason, that Harrold, Edney class didn’t demonstrate strong leadership despite how great of a gymnast Edney was and how much everyone loved Ruby). It is just time for a change.
Also, Tigerbait, you seem close to the team - have you heard anything in particular about excuses/reasons for the performance?

There are no excuses, they returned the same team that made nationals last year and added a very good freshmen class but we looked like we regressed this year in many spots. Now I do cut some slack on things that are out of control like injuries and illness but if LSU would have just been mediocre yesterday, they would have advanced easily.
I don’t know what the deal is but they need a sports psychologist or something much more extensive. The mental aspect of competing and handling pressure is not good. We saw countless times throughout the year how a one mistake snowballed.
As far as everything else, we are too reliant on Bryant and Kiya to carry the team. Jay stuck with essentially the same lineups all year and didn’t try to develop other routines outside the ones that we did use.
The super seniors are what they are. They are hard working kids, but they were never going to carry the scores for us. Unfortunately they couldn’t hit during critical routines we needed most from them yesterday (Sami on bars and Desiderio on beam)
