I have watched some, though not all, of Utah’s meets. And you could tell tonight by their absolutely superior form on beam (as I mentioned in my original comment). Like if it’s close, they will beat us solely because of their beam advantage. As it so happened tonight we had vault landings and they didn’t, which allowed us to find the win. I also think their form on bars is better. That was my point - we don’t seem to have that finesse that teams 1-4 have, or at least throughout the lineup, or consistently week to week. They generally do, especially as it relates to form (though I know they had a clunker of a meet a few weeks ago). Also, they didn’t have arguably their best gymnast competing tonight.

Again, I love this team and this sport, but we should also be realistic. And I might be wrong, but even as a fan who has everyone reason to be biased, their beam rotation was in a different class than ours. And ours was really good!

Fair enough and good response. But hey if Utah is better on beam and bars but LSU is better on floor and vault…….it’s a tie : )

Haha…perhaps depending on how much better in each rotation ;)

But good discussion snd of course a great meet and win tonight!

Sarah Edwards! Amazing floor routine! She has been very consistent with her floor routine in recent years! Her routine was different tonight…did anyone else notice that? It was amazing and I loved it!

And listen…we’ve got what it takes! We’ve got some lower team scores banked than we would like, but many of those lower ones occurred without our best lineups!

I agree 100% that we’ve got to see our bars and beam move out of the 9.8’s to make it happen! We’ve got to find those extra .05 and .10 points! Those really add up and make the difference.

And finally…KJ’s stellar vault! I was so disappointed in her score. I feel as though the judges penalize the 9.95 sv vaults just because they aren’t as “difficult.” However, the .05 off the top should be the only thing taken because it’s not as difficult. One judge went 9.80 for KJ! 1.5 in deduction…because there was legit a form issue somewhere…or because they “penalize” the “easier” vaults?! This is a true question! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

QUOTE: "However I will also say that Utah was probably a bit underscored on floor and that beam rotation was lights out".

Tom Farden has said in an interview that he recruits girls that are BEAM workers because they make a difference in a win or loss. He also stated that he and KJ Kindler often go after the same girls because of beam.

Both OK and Utah have great beam lineups each year. We have several girls coming in that are very polished on beam. Annie and Lily should be assets to the lineup. I think we will look much different on beam next year.

I’m still wondering why Dunne hasn’t worked out on beam. I thought one of the main reasons we recruited her was because of beam! Hopefully we’ll see her on beam next year with Dean and Christina out.

I was watching this interview and he mentioned Sarah and alyona’s landing issues and mentioned something about them not being able to train the landings on hard surfaces. I understand alyona as she is coming back from injury but what is going on with Sarah’s landings? Why can’t she train them - anyone know what he meant by that because she’s doing floor on hard surface alot so I thought It was an odd comment ? He mentioned that they could only talk through the issues with her Landing which I don’t really get / does she have an unknown injury. Sarah’s landing is definetly the biggest issue on vault this season and hopefully they can give them some major attention this week

I’m sure Sarah has some kind of ankle thing. At her age, after doing gym for at least 15 years, her body’s probably just tired. Christina is a year younger than the other supers a she still has lots of hip issues. I think floor and vault just kill the ankles and knees.

In NQS news Auburn is not having a killer meet after 2 rotations in Michigan. We've jumped Bama and could very well jump Auburn unless they set records on floor and vault

Auburn won’t hit the 197.650 or so they needed so we will move ahead of both Bama and Auburn and back to #5. Of course, SECs will be big for everyone as it counts as an away meet for all teams.

Wooo think this means we will start on bars not beam for secs and finish on vault. Very happy about that as beam is always a hard one to start on

So does that mean that we will start on bars for SECs?

Though to be fair…I don’t love auburn/Suni ending on bars…scores will already be inflated by then, plus Suni and the fact that they do have a pretty good bar team generally. Vault is relatively low stress for us to end on, so here’s to hoping everyone finds their landings next week too!

Starting on bars and ending on vault would be a win. You don’t want to go first or last on beam

I don’t think Sarah can. I bet she takes that huge step every time she does it in practice. The one time she landed it she looked SHOCKED. But she looks the happiest to be there! My wife calls her smiley face.

I agree. But after five years you,d think they could have figured out to harness her power into a stuck landing, even if it required a different vault (like maybe even a double, lol, she is so quick and seems to be a good twister on floor)

With Alabama and Auburn being tied with their NQS, who will start on beam and who on floor? Will they use the team average or a highest meet score to decide who will be 3rd or 4th in the evening session?

Auburn will be ranked higher because they have highest non counted score for nqs so they will start on beam

I won’t worry about the national draw until after next weekends conference championships, but it’s worth noting that if things don’t change we would be seeded to the Washington regional with an unseeded ucla. It is to everyone,s best interest for ucla to get into the top 16 so that they won’t just be geographically seeded there.
