I think it’s great to see her doing something different. It wasn’t pretty but I think it’s just a skill that will never look pretty to me (wolf turn). She’s trying to set up for Cheng in ‘24 Olympics which I think is awesome!

On another note did anyone watch Fla/Kentucky? Alyssa Bauman just does not look happy to me this season. I don’t know what’s going on but she just looks like she’s lost her joy.

I agree it is great for her to try something new abs great for her to set up that Cheng. However her form on it is terrible (for ncaa) and if it continues to score high just because she’s SUni, then I’ll be annoyed.

I agree with that but also kiya gets higher scores for doing the dy and sometimes gets over scores for difficulty. There needs to more separation in college scoring or I think we will see a lot of the same ole crap that we’re seeing now. Scoring is already pretty terrible and seems to be getting worse.

Sure. But comparing Kiya’s small hops and minute form breaks to that vault are apples to oranges in my opinion. I guess what I am saying to is it should be judged more like haleigh’s vault performed by those who aren’t haleigh - it has historically been very hard to get a high score with that vault even though it is a 10.0 start (ask McKenna kelly) because they’re also taking for chest down on it more than the yurchenkos (haliegh’s form is just always great). I am just saying that vault just looks incredibly wonky to the untrained eye even when it is stuck, so … hopefully they’ll take a look at that once they are used to her throwing it!

Sounds like they are going to give Aleah a shot on bars tomorrow and Ballard in on floor for Kiya.

It also looks like Sami is going to replace someone on vault for the tri-meet.

Sophomore Sierra Ballard and senior Sami Durante are expected to make their season debuts on floor and vault respectively.

Edit: It's not like I am celebrating our lack of 10s in the vault lineup, just providing info. On a good note, Tori traveled with the team. Hopefully, that means she is recovering quicker than expected. Really excited for her 1.5!

Oh you mean instead of trying to add a dy (kj), or another 1.5(kam), we are adding jays favorite gymnast to do another full. Greeaat

Hey do y’all think they will go to Olympic scoring to get away from all these10s? Or do y’all see no problems them giving them out. Seems every meet there are 2 or 3 tens.

There are definite problems with it but I don’t see them changing to elite scoring. If they would just take the deductions that are there, the high scores would decrease dramatically. If they would stop looking at name and Leo color that would be great too. I think they need to judge more like the jo code. I’m not sure if they are doing it for more viewers or what but it totally cheapens the sports to have so many high scores and no parity. Look at our meet friday. They last rotion was bonkers! Every routine on beam was a 9.9 or better? I don’t think so! And we haven’t even gotten to the Fla/Okla or Okla/Michigan meet yet. I’m predicting at least 3 10’s each meet. Eyeroll

Kam is doing an exhibition on Bars. Wish we could see her on vault as well. Sami appears to be competing on beam.

Makes zero sense to me, she isn't going to ever break a bar lineup, letting her do a 1.5 in exhibition would be much much more beneficial (even if she falls). Missed opportunity if they dont do it.

I mean with her direct non vertical bail - Jay would never (especially because her legs are a bit wonky). Did anyone happen to see Aleah,s bars? I missed it trying to log in to sec+

Also Kai isn’t dressed out so my guess is that’s why Sami is in vault and beam.

Given that this was our second meet in 3 days, I am not disappointed with the score; however, I am disappointed in the judges' inconsistency. Christina and KJ's floors were clearly 9.9+ compared to Mizzou's floors.

It was great to see Aleah on bars today. Thought she looked very clear! Jay needs to find a new dismount for Dunne's bars. She's getting deducted tenths for her double layout form. Maybe a double tuck connected with something.

Look's like Haleigh is feeling healthier, which is always great news. Okay road score that will eventually replace the Georgia score with the NQS. Too bad next meet isn't going to be streamed on ESPN. I can't wait for the Kentucky and Utah meets in the PMAC!

good post and I concur. One thing I have noticed with the 10s is not necessarily giving out the 10s is the problem. Its the scoring before the 10s. They will give a girl a 9.975 that she no way deserves. So any routine thats better than hers has to be a 10. Watch next time you see a gymnast get a 9.975, you can always predict a 10 in that rotation.(even with the untrained eye)

I’ve been saying for a while that the problem in scoring lies in all the 9.825-9.875 routines. In college gym you are basically going to get that score without a major error unless you are above and beyond. But then those who are above and beyond don’t have much room to be separated from a 9.875. What if a gymnast does a run of the mill Yurchenko full with a stick and goes 9.875. Then comes the 1.5 vault with huge amplitude and great form but there is a slight hop. That vault may go the same score or just barely ahead of it. It shouldn’t be like that. A lot of these 9.85 range scores should be 9.75 and it would help a lot.

Interesting, AAI is nominating people who were also nominated last year (the super seniors)…anyway go Sami!

Congrats to her but if I had to vote this year I would select Desiderio of all the LSU Gymnasts. Not sure how she isn't included. She is peaking 5th year and has been nothing short of outstanding on beam and floor. She should be talked about more IMO, the gymternet especially has been raving about her all year. Its nice to see everything come together for her.

Florida has 6 nominees: Alyssa Bauman, Leah Clapper, Trinity Thomas, Megan Scaggs, Nya Reed and Savannah Schoenherr.

Sami is our only nominee but Christina Desiderio is another good choice for LSU.

I think it’s based on all 4-5 years plus academics. I think sami’s one of the best students on the team? Leah clapper for instance hasn’t had a great season this year but has gotten academic awards and a 10 in the past. UCLA and Kennedy Hambrick are noticeably missing from the nominees.
